HAWKEYE Production Delayed Slightly As SPIDER-MAN 3 Begins Preparation To Start Filming In New York

While work on Hawkeye has been delayed slightly, things are looking good for Spider-Man 3 as Marvel Studios starts getting ready to shoot the threequel in New York City. Read on for further details...

With big 2021 movies like The Batman and Jurassic World: Dominion vacating next year for less risky slots in 2022, it's an uncertain time for upcoming blockbusters, and more changes are no doubt on the way. Marvel Studios is among those scrambling to resume work on upcoming big and small screen projects, which bodes well for next year, at least.

A post shared on Reddit has revealed that Spider-Man 3 is set to shoot in Sunnyside Queens in New York City on October 16th. Notices have gone up for "Serenity Now," the confirmed working title for Jon Watts' threequel, so we could get some set photos less than 10 days from now.

Tom Holland is obviously busy in Germany shooting Uncharted, but it's no secret that production was always set to begin without him, and the advantage of a masked character like Spider-Man is that a stand-in can be used. As a result, the British actor obviously won't be needed on set.

In other Marvel Cinematic Universe news, Murphy's Multiverse is reporting that a casting call for Hawkeye has confirmed that production has now been delayed from October to November.

That's only a very minor shift, of course, and to be expected thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

as long as its a mcu live action spiderman 3, all is great.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder how the mcu would be different if Spider-Man was never a part of it. With Spider-Man also came delays in both Black Panther and Captain Marvel. With Captain Marvel placing it awkwardly between Infinity War and Endgame. Having that movie released before Infinity War and having that movie slot filled by Black Widow would've made Captain Marvel's inclusion less jarring but also allowed for a more emotional send off for Black Widow.

@Origame - I think And-Man and the Wasp also caused some shifts. Inhumans' omission not however, since that was supposed to release in november 2019 if I recall correctly

@bkmeijer - In fairness to Inhumans, it never sounded like Feige cared about Inhumans' inclusion. It was always a Perlmutter thing to have their own X-Men.

Wish they gave us a title already. One that hasn't Home in the title. Also I doubt this will be released december next year with all the delay already going on

@bkmeijer - it’s going to be called Spider-aman: Homebodies and it’ll deal with Spider-Man being quarantined and playing Fortnite

@PicolasCage - Actually, yes. With the two Marvel heroes that know how to do quarantine right.

@bkmeijer - I feel like if they do go with multiple trilogies for the character, each dealing with a era in his life, each trilogy would have some "gimmick" to its title.
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 10/7/2020, 6:01 AM
@AbidNaga - that makes sense, but I feel they're limiting themselves by forcing themselves to use a specific word in the title

@bkmeijer - Yeah I agree, I laughed at the "Far From Home" name but got used to it after a bit so I feel like we're gonna end up on this oscillating discourse of making fun of the title until the next one comes along ha

@Amuro - I think of those I like Home Free the best, because of the title joke. I can see Homesick happen as well, maybe because he is on the run or something.

Personal favorite though, has to be Home Sweet Home

Okay, so I watched this web series about performers with disabilities and was genuinely moved by this monologue by Mat Fraser. (Sorry, can't embed it.)

http://www.bbcamerica.com/shows/criptales/episodes/season-1-audition--47838

And I started to do something I know I shouldn't: start with an actor and then try to find the right CBM role for them. In general, I think the result of that process is never as good as when you go in the other direction.

And yet, I find the casting I landed on particularly compelling. At least, compelling enough to mention it: Magneto.

(While it's not necessary), there's a McKellanesque quality to him that I do think works. He's got presence and weight and the right look. I feel like I could watch him do something monstrous, but maintain the kind of deep humanity and pathos that keeps him from actually being a monster. There's a warmth here (and Fassbender showed that coldness is the death of Magneto as a protagonist, I think).

And the nature of Magneto's powers kind of negate any concerns about his disability in terms of the internal logic and filming requirements. Your arms being unusually short and lacking thumbs is meaningless when you're the master of magnetism.

I don't want to make an exhaustive pros and cons list or anything, but it just struck me how much I think Magneto has been played out, and then when I imagined him in the role, I sat up in my chair and actually felt like the character has some life left in him. Anyway, YMMV on this one.

patgreyc - 10/7/2020, 7:16 AM
@Spock0Clock - He does have the look, I'll have to give it a watch. You are spot on about someone with magnetic powers not being affected by his specific disability. Question becomes, how do you work around his WW2 origin or do we just give him a new back story? Sad to say, the Nazis would have tossed him in the chamber far sooner then their other prisoners. He wouldn't have lived to become Magneto.
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 10/7/2020, 7:35 AM
@patgreyc - I think they still involve his WW2 origin, but instead of being a first generation victim he will be a second generation victim (and that his disability comes from what happened to either of his parents)
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 10/7/2020, 8:21 AM
@patgreyc - At this point, a rebooted Magneto in his 40's-to-60's in the modern day wouldn't have been a Holocaust survivor anyway. It kind of sucks to lose that element, but at least Fox got so much material out of it (and mostly to great effect).

This is probably the CBM I'm most excited for next year(???) but at the same time most worried about based on the cliffhanger.

On one side, he could get his secret identity back and the events of the film basically teach him how vulnerable he is and the importance of having a secret identity. I'd absolutely love for this to happen, maybe even getting some depth for this version of Jonah hiring him as an apology for putting a kid on blast once he thinks he's not spider-man and we get some reasoning into why Jonah was frustrated with the concept of Spider-Man (the whole "masks" and secret identity stuff - Zdarsky probably did the best job on this imo, followed up by Bendis on JJJs alcoholism)

On the other, they lean into the no secret identity thing - which conceptually I'm really against.

I feel like whatever choice they make on this either makes or breaks a significant aspect of this version of the character for me.

bkmeijer2 - 10/7/2020, 6:06 AM
@AbidNaga - I kinda hope that even when it is ''proven'' that Peter Parker isn't Spider-Man, JJJ still holds some sort of grudge against him.

Or I want to see that moment from the comics where Spider-Man says he is black and that JJJ is a racist because of that.
AbidNaga
AbidNaga - 10/7/2020, 6:23 AM
@bkmeijer - "Spider-Man says he is black and that JJJ is a racist because of that. "

Ha, I've only ever seen screenshots of that panel so I dont know its context, but always got a good chuckle out of me.

But yeah, post "resecuring" his identity, the relationship between JJJ and Spider-Man should maintain hostility - though it'd be a good crutch for JJJ to develop a more "I'm an angry guy but I look after my employees" relationship with Peter (if he gets hired).

The Alex Jones thing is a funny bit, but I really hope that's the extent of it since there's a lot of potential in the Robbie, Urich (RIP I suppose), Jonah, and Peter relationship.

Also with May, I loved her in Homecoming and was willing to give a pass for her lack of screentime in FFH since I'm used to the whole Tie-In has to focus more on addressing the Big Event thing. But there's also a lot of potential for them to explore her relationship with knowing Peter is Spider-Man now that he's probably gonna suffer a bit for his identity being outed - basically an opportunity for them to actually do a post-reveal variation of the talk/confession (personally prefer the talk because I like ultimate May a lot more but thats besides the point)

@AbidNaga - I hate Far From Home but the cliffhanger was definitely one of the good things that came out of it and I really hope that they will live up to the expectations this time. There is so much potential with it.

Still think it’s going to be Home for the Holidays - where Peter is initially in hiding, then drawn out by Kraven somehow, who has been contracted to bring him in. No idea how Electro will figure in, other than guessing it will be a reimagining of the character - he won’t be blue, he won’t be a nerd, he will have different motivations, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if those two team up with past villains and Spidey gets some help from fellow Avengers at the climax. I don’t expect them to resolve or undo the identity issue in this next film - it will moreso be the repercussions of the reveal.

@Finalshowdown - if it takes place at Christmas time, I'm down. But I don't want it to be like Iron Man 3 lol
