Jeph Loeb Explains How INHUMANS Went From Being A Movie Everyone Wanted To See To A Disappointing TV Series

Inhumans was set to be a Game of Thrones style movie that fans could not wait to see. However, it's now a TV series slammed by fans and critics alike. How did it happen? Well, we may have an answer...

Inhumans was supposed to be part of Marvel's Phase 3 slate and rumour had it that Game of Thrones was heavily influencing the adaptation. However, we've since learned that it was Marvel boss Ike Perlmutter who was pushing for the movie to happen as part of his desire to replace the X-Men and Fantastic Four. However, when Kevin Feige had enough of Ike and decided to get Disney to make Marvel Studios a separate entity, Inhumans was quickly removed from the studio's release slate.

Did Feige never want to make it or was he simply
spiting Ike? We may never know but Marvel TV's Jeph Loeb has now shed some light on how Inhumans went from being a movie to a television series.

"Well, as you know Marvel is one big giant company, and this was a property that was in [the] movie division, and when they looked at their schedule and realized what they wanted to be doing, [Inhumans] was something that was gonna push very far out. So we started having a conversation with them about, 'well, maybe this is something that would work as a television series.' And that worked out really well."

That's clearly a very safe answer but there's no doubt some truth there. Unfortunately, the result of this is that Inhumans is now a disappointing TV series likely to last for just a single season if early buzz is any indication rather than a movie which could have brought Black Bolt and company to the forefront of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. What do you guys think of Loeb's comments here?

@BillGrave - The problem with that quote on paper, at least as I believe it was meant to be intended, is that the scheduling and pacing worked out better for TV, not that the show worked out well. Either way it was a clusterf*ck.

Probably should've had it in their plans when working on the Inhumans storyline for the Avengers movies.

Forget television shows all together and just make more movies. 4 or 5 a year would be awesome

@DoubleD - Hell no. Most people like agents of shield, and when netflix can write a proper script its amazing.

@DoubleD - nah fam. I would like them to consider doing lower budget short format movies though. THats kinda what they are doing at netflix, but like no reaosn every franchise needs to be a Thor or Avengers sized film, Inhumans easily could have been a Sherlock style long form show that drops like 4 epsiodes a year or an 90 min movie

@Kyos - my god Cap was a dork in that movie. Between the suit that made him looks like a goofball in pajamas, and the fact that he was made the straight man of the group, he was just a total dag.
