JESSICA JONES Showrunner Comments On Season 2 Plans And THE DEFENDERS

Will we see season two of Jessica Jones before The Defenders? Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg reveals here that the team-up has to "shoot by a certain time, contractually," and weighs in on what she hopes is next for the character in this corner of the MCU...

Jessica Jones is amazing, and providing the viewing figures were good enough, we should hear about a season two renewal any day now (it took eleven days for Daredevil to get a second season). Talking to The Hollywood Reporter recently, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg was asked about the possibility of a second season for Jessica Jones, and had this to say about squeezing that in before The Defenders are eventually assembled. "I hope so. There certainly is story-telling wise. The question becomes is there actual time? There are logistics involved, because Defenders has to shoot by a certain time, contractually. Actually, I'm not sure; I'm not at all involved in those conversations, much to my dismay. The first question is whether or not we will even get a second season. The second question is, if so, when? Will it be before The Defenders or after? I'd certainly love it to be before but there are things that play into that — time, availability."

With Daredevil likely to hit next April, if Netflix move Luke Cage up to the summer, a second lot of Jessica Jones could probably be reach us by next November. Asked how protective she feels about the character and whether she hopes to be heavily involved with The Defenders regardless of when that hits, Rosenberg added: "I'm a complete control freak when it comes to this character. I will do everything in my power to protect the character in whatever forms. They'll have to throw me kicking and screaming out of that building. But they own the property. They've really been inclusive thus far so I'm not really worried about it." What do you think of these comments? Weigh in on that and your spoiler-free Jessica Jones thoughts in the comments section below.

I'd be happy either way with defenders first or second. I just can't wait to see DD JJ and Luke cage on the TV at once. I thought it so many times during Jessica Jones how awesome it would be to have Matt in the room too.

Daredevil was sooooooooo good and well received, there was demand for a season 2 right away. If JJ has fans clamoring for a season 2 with the same fervor, we may get one next year at the same time. If I rember correctly, Defenders is set for a 2017 release. I loved JJ but I want Defenders and Iron Fist first

I really did love Jessica Jones but after the way it ended i don't really know how it could continue, unlike something like Daredevil which has a shit ton of different villains and stories to go from Jessica Jones pretty much only has Alias, I think it would be wise to not have season 2, or if you are going to have it, at least wait until Defenders comes out.

Rosenberg pretty much nailed it. Not the kind of "living in a world of superheroes" story that the comic was, because it sort of couldn't be. But for Jessica's introduction to the broader audience, it's hard to imagine anyone doing better. Hopefully a second season will come, come quickly, and find a way to integrate some of those superheroy elements into it. Like, for instance, introducing the MCU Rick Jones:

Maybe include some tall tales that he's written about as "the Hulk's Best Friend".

@GliderMan
I have never been so frustrated about a Marvel property.

I'm truly fascinated by that.

How can you even do a second season when Alias was 28 issues? Pretty sure they've adapted everything they could.

Finished the show last night, overall a great show. Daredevil was better but not by a lot. Mike Coulter stole the show every time he showed up. I was hoping Matt Murdoch would show up at the end to be her lawyer but it didn't happen. Claire Temple did mention she knew "someone" with abilities, so we did get a Daredevil easter egg sorta. Can't wait for the Luke Cage show.

@Mrcool210

The origin of her powers is obviously being set up as the centerpiece for a second season. I'm not overly fond of that idea, but that's clearly the direction they're leaning.

I'm on episode 10 so far and it's a great show. Excellent writing and mostly great acting. It's side it's though are my big issue, [frick] the annoying ass twincest cramp and the whole divorce storyline with Carrie Anne-Moss, it felt like pointless padding and something that belongs in a CW show, not a Netflix one.

Also, nitpick, but my god they had more sex happening than the entire Game of Thrones series. It was ridiculously hilarious.

You people... In what world would that be a complaint at all (if it were even true, which is very much isn't). There's what? Four sex scenes? In 12 hours? Watchmen had that in 3. Plus a very awkward needledrop and symbolic climax. I hope each and every one of you complaining about Jessica Jones were complaining about that, as well. (But I know better.)

One of the few times Marvel let someone really take over the reigns. She wrote almost every episode. Maybe Marvel should interfere a little bit. Throw their weight around with Rosenberg. She did alter a lot. Usually, Marvel is more comic book accurate. Daredevil was so good at adapting the comics. Still would JJ nevertheless

Fine fine there is such thing.

That's what we are talking about with Iron Fist right?

@Contoured442

Yeah. Sort of spoils the fun a bit (like Oscorp creating all of the Spider-Man's rogues in a theoretical Amazing Spider-Man 3), but that's probably where they are going. Also, the "Black Sun" kid from Daredevil and Cage's experiments, and possibly Hellcat's powers if she ever gets any, as well.

Kind of the nature of the beast for cinematic universes. Like Hulk being a supersoldier experiment. "It's all connected" is sometimes as much a curse as a blessing.
