Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg Teases JESSICA JONES Season 2 And THE DEFENDERS

Though season 2 of Marvel's Jessica Jones won't be airing on Netflix until after The Defenders, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg is hard at work crafting the character's next adventure...

We still have quite a wait until Jessica Jones season 2 hits Netflix, though we'll be seeing the character again next year when she teams up with Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist in The Defenders. In the meantime, Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg has been busy crafting the story for the next season, and spoke with IGN about her plans for the character, along with working alongside the Defenders showrunners.

While the first season drew heavily from "Alias" by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos, the second season will strike out on its own, introducing some new supporting characters. "[There will be] some new characters that are only interesting in how they relate to our existing characters," said Rosenberg. "We can really get into some very interesting aspects of their characters and where they're from, where they're going, all these things. I'm super excited about that." In terms of a baddie, Rosenberg stopped short of revealing anything, but confirmed that the show won't be trying to replicate David Tennant's villainous Kilgrave. "David Tennant's [Kilgrave], we'll never create that again. That is one of the great iconic characters played by a profoundly talented actor. The objective is not to match that, not to try to do that again," Rosenberg said.

One supporting character in particular, Trish "Patsy" Walker, has a rich history in the comic books. When asked if Trish would be suiting up as Hellcat in the upcoming season, Rosenberg would neither confirm nor deny the possibility. "[There's] always the promise," Rosenberg said. "I mean, for me, the character of Trish is so rich, Hellcat or not. She's already bad-ass. What's most interesting to me is their relationship. You know, that friendship, that sisterhood. That's the core of the show. That's the core relationship of the show."

Rosenberg also has the task of making sure the second season flows well, both from season 1's events, and also into the upcoming Defenders crossover as well. "What's nice for us over on our side of the hall, is if we think -- we're still shaping what we want to do, but we're like, maybe we can set them up over in The Defenders, let's go talk to [Defenders showrunners] Doug [Petrie] and Marco [Ramirez], and we're like, 'Hey, what do you think about this?'"

Despite the current strife between the Marvel television and film divisions, it's certainly good to see a sense of comraderie and unity between the witers and directors. Are you looking forward to Jessica Jones' future appearances? Sound off below!

Since there's not much on second season to go on yet, just going to put in my two cents: I really liked, the whole 'I don't want to be a hero, a f it fine' but it could have used less episodes!! A lot of eps were just waste of time overall and same with Daredevil second season tbqh. Hopefully they learned from this.

Sounds good. Wish their wasn't such a long break between seasons. Loved season one so much. Absolutely essential going forward though to see Patsy Walker as Hellcat in costume.

After seeing the Luke Cage trailer yesterday and the amazing work that Marvel has done with these Netflix series, not having them show up in the movie world truly tying this all together would be a shame.

All the supporting characters in Jessica Jones (except Cage) were annoying as all hell. I hope they fix that in the second season.

I wish they never killed him off. He was such a fantastic antagonist. He never even went fully purple. I don't know...I'm just going to miss him.

@TheRationalNerd - who knows, maybe all that shit he had pumped into his neck can cure him. But I agree, I'll miss him like crazy, he was probably my favorite villain out of any marvel property so far

As long as they fix the pacing problems of season 1. Maybe have an overarching plot supported by one-off episodes where Jessica has to solve cases?
