After the trailer for Jessica Jones was released, many of you were wondering, and are probably still wondering, how Marvel would incorporate one of the most notable physical aspects of the antagonist of the series, Killgrave (Zebediah Killgrave/Purple Man), with that being his unusual and purple skin tone. It started to become an accepted notion that he may never have purple skin since it seems too conspicuous for a person to have, leading for him only to wear purple suits as a nod to the character's interpretation in the comics as a sense of realism. For the show, David Tennant's performance as Killgrave is strong to the point in which the need or want for the character to have purple skin is either very little or completely forgotten. However, does that mean it wouldn't work or have any chance of appearing on the show?

With enough thought, of the character, taken into consideration, the answer is no. A purple-skinned Killgrave on the show could work, just not in the most frank way. I am aware of the fact that the image to the right is an image of Professor Charles Xavier from X-Men: First Class, not Killgrave, but it plays a role in what I'm about to get to in a second, so stay tuned. Now, Killgrave's origin, in the comics, involves him being exposed to nerve gas, giving him his abilities and his purple skin. His abilities offer him a wide-range of control over others through their mind, which is what he and Professor X have in common, so, it is safe to say that, Killgrave could possess some of the potential that Professor X has with his mutant powers. More specifically, Professor X's mutant powers gives him the power to make other people see what he wants to see, as seen in different scenes of his. Since Killgrave has an effect on the pheromones of people, he could also do this. The purpose for this? To hide what the nerve gas, or whatever happens to him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, did to him; his purple/scarred skin. There's no telling how he could look after such an accident. In this case, Killgrave could have made it to where this effect would be an aura he gives off in the air that is always present.
Of course, this needs to have it's limit. Nothing too complicated, a simple hard concussion gives him less mental activity with his powers, causing his control over others and aura to be gone, while his true looks (or colors) are shown. If this concept, or something similar, is applied within the series, then a great amount of mystery should surround such a secluded sight. Without questioning, Killgrave's look would be terrifying to see, in person, and would be a mix of, both, the purple skin tone and hard scarring/wounds.

I just noticed now that he has the same power as Lelouch from Code Geass, its weird but im way more hyped for netflix/mcu tv shows than mcu movies, [frick] yea, i dont want to sound racist but they should make luke cage show more defenders style so it wont be too boring, hes a cool a character but between him or moon knight you know which one i would pick.Any otakus here?

After watching the trailer I think the purple aspects are going to be limited to the actual mind control aspects of his powers. All of jessicas brief flashbacks with Killgrave seem to have a purple saturation to it, I think this will be the dream like visual representation of being mind controlled by Killgrave.

killgrave's powers are not telepathy. He can't [frick] with you unless he is phsycially present to expose you to the pheremones. He isn't purple because him being purple would turn literally 90% of viewers off of the show.

this whole [frick]ing argument about him being purple is stupid. watch the trailer.

it shows you exactly what his powers do, they make you see the world in shades of purple. simple as that. It's a brilliant way to bring a character who started of with a ridiculous premise and bringing him to the more grounded MCU.

I always had this idea when he takes over your mind or gets into your head, you see his skin purple. I mean he isn't purple but when you are under his control or have been or are, you see his skin is purple you know? That way only his victims see his skin is purple but in reality the public or anyone who hasn't been affected by him sees his skin isn't purple.

Or maybe his skin is actually purple and he doesn't hide it from his victims. The public is the world he tricks his skin color with. He is purple but he makes the public see him as white to fit in and not let people get suspicious.

@MexicanSuperman

I have no idea what that means. Similar because human beings have similarities? That's such a weird comment to make about a man not having purple skin. Everybody else is bland-looking because they have normal skin colors?

Whether they have him purple or not, I'm fine with it, I like the way the show does it, this is only a suggestion to those who can't live without him being purple. But, your argument is an underdeveloped loaf of shit, man. It's noted that his pheromones are released into the atmosphere to the point in which he can influence nearly a hundred people at one time; over an entire crowd. Since we're discussing telepathy, to be honest, no one brought up [frick]ing telepathy but you; telepathy wasn't the power I was referring to with Professor X. If you watched X-Men: First Class and how he told the man to get in the car and the man got in the car, you wouldn't have made such an ignorant comment.

If the purple skin is really that important, they could just have him always be seen with purple lighting reflecting onto his skin (Similar to what Gotham and the Dark Knight do with Two-Face)
