Like WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier before it, Loki will introduce some new faces to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of whom will be played by admitted Marvel "novice" Owen Wilson (The Life Aquatic, The Wedding Crashers).
The actor will make his MCU debut in this Wednesday's series premiere as Time Variance Authority Agent Mobius M. Mobius. Though some seem to be under the impression that this character was created for the show, Mobius does actually appear in the comics as a TVA clone resembling writer Mark Gruenwald. Of course, Wilson's interpretation will be far more fleshed-out - although he does actually make a joke(?) about being a clone at one point.
Disney+ has now released a new featurette which focuses on Mobius, and includes footage from the show along with interview snippets with Wilson. The actor jokes that he was previously approached to play Iron Man, Captain America and Hulk (he was reportedly offered an undisclosed role in a previous Marvel Studios film), but was very impressed by what Kevin Feige and director Kate Herron put together for Loki.
During a recent interview with THR, Herron spoke about "wooing" Wilson for the project.
"It was the most detailed pitch I’ve ever done, to an actor, ever," she told the site. "I think I pretty much spoke through the entire first episode with him. You can tell he’s a writer, just by the way he attacks story. His questions about the world and the structure and the arc of the character. It was really fun to work with him."
