LOKI: Tom Hiddleston's God Of Mischief's Gender Is Listed As "Fluid" In New Promo

Loki is genderfluid and bisexual in the comics, and it looks like the former also applies to Tom Hiddleston's take on the God of Mischief in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Take a look...

It looks like Loki has been confirmed as genderfluid in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The God of Mischief was officially retconned to be genderfluid and bisexual in the 2014 Loki: Agent of Asgard comic series, and recent rumors indicated that the upcoming Disney+ show would follow suit. While the character's sexual orientation is TBC, a new promo for Loki has revealed that Tom Hiddleston's take on the Asgardian trickster is indeed genderfluid.

The video begins with a shot of the TVA's file on Loki, and the "Sex" section of the form is listed as "Fluid". As far as we know, Loki still identifies as male, and this is most likely a reference to his ability to change genders when he shape-shifts.

It's still a pretty big deal, but we don't expect the series to focus on this aspect of the character to any significant degree. Then again, the first two episodes do spend quite a bit of time delving into what makes Laufeyson tick, so it might just surprise us.

Loki will see the God of Mischief step "out of his brother’s shadow in a new series that takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Tom Hiddleston returns as the title character, and he'll be joined by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku and Richard E. Grant. Kate Herron directs Loki, and Michael Waldron is head writer."

Marvel's highly-anticipated Disney+ series is set to premiere on the streaming service on June 9. You can check out my reaction to the first two episodes below.

People with brains: "Oh, that's actually a clever acknowledgement of how he can take the form of absolutely anybody and anything, not just guys."

oh boy, wait until they hear about the real mithological Loki and what (and who) he did.

Accurate to the mythology (in which he is the mother of an eight legged horse)

I guess Mystique and Chameleon are too, lol

@KWilly - I mean, I assume Mystique can, ahem, FULLY transform into either a woman or a man, so...yeah, I guess she would fit into that category kinda by default.

@KWilly - Considering Claremont wanted Nightcrawler to be the biological son of Destiny and Mystique in male form....

@SerKurtWagner - Sometimes I wish Claremont (and Simonson and Nocenti) had been given absolute freedom to take the X-Men in every transgressive punk rock direction they wanted and had it crystalize into the canon forever. And sometimes I'm afraid of what they may have been truly capable of with full control. I've compared Snyder to a clumsy chainsaw juggler, but late-80's X-Men editorial lit those chainsaws on fire for good measure.

In any case, I think Marvel still has Claremont on salary, I actually wish they'd commission him to do some spec treatments for X-Men movies just as jumping off points. The dude's an absolute resource that still feels like he's got one last round of relevancy in him. In many ways it feels like Generation Z finally caught up to Claremont.

@Spock0Clock - Absolutely. I really hope they keep him closely involved in the project, hopefully he can at the very least get a cameo. But he was so ahead of his time, it would be great to see him get a role in pitching stories/character takes for a truly modern X-Men.

Am I the only one who doesn’t care who Loki decides to share his bed with… male, female, gnome or ogre who cares!?
Spidey91
Spidey91 - 6/6/2021, 7:32 PM
@WruceBayne - the MCU Loki doesn't even have that kind of drive, he only gets off to world domination or Thor suffering.

How is Loki listed at 6'4 when Thor is listed at 6'3 in the MCU

I’ve seen Thor listed at 6’6 in some MCU listings though

@BlackBeltJones - I think those 6'6 listings for Thor are just adhering to comic stats, like the Spidey PS4 games listing Peter at 5'10 even though he was confirmed taller [in the games] by the devs. In the first Thor he was listed 6'3 I recall

Gay, straight, bi, male female, fluid...it matters not to all gods and demi-gods alike. Most of them would stick their dick in anything.

The only thing you can definitely NOT do is list them as asexual.

@inkniron - The only Asexual MCU character thus far is Groot since his species can regrow from a branch/seed left behind.
