MOON KNIGHT Racks Up A Mighty 75 Million Trailer Views During Its First 24 Hours Of Release

It's looking like Marvel Studios has another major hit on its hands with Moon Knight, as the viewing figures for the first trailer make it clear there's a lot of interest in Marc Spector's MCU debut...

Moon Knight has never been an A-List superhero in the Marvel Universe, but he's definitely gained something of a cult following since debuting in the pages of Werewolf-by-Night #32 in 1975. Marc Spector has since appeared in several different solo titles, and while some have worked better than others, none have really had the staying power of titles like Amazing Spider-Man and Iron Man.

The hope is that the Moon Knight TV series will rejuvenate the character and create a whole new legion of fans who will help ensure the unhinged vigilante gets to shine on the page again; however, this April, Marvel Comics will launch Moon Knight: Black, White, and Blood, a four-part anthology series to accompany Jed Mackay's solid run on the anti-hero's core series.

Fans are clearly excited about Moon Knight's MCU debut, anyway, as The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the trailer generated over 75 million views during its first 24 hours online. 23 million of those came from the NFL game the teaser premiered during with the rest counted from YouTube and social media.

This is actually higher than the debuts of trailers for Loki and WandaiVision, though The Falcon and The Winter Soldier remains in the #1 spot with 125 million views after dropping during the Super Bowl. Social engagement for Moon Knight is through the roof, though, which bodes well for Disney+.

"I couldn’t tell if this was a movie or a TV show, that’s how good it looks," one rival studio executive told the trade, clearly impressed by what Marvel Studios has delivered.

The series follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.

Moon Knight premieres on Disney+ on March 30.

The trailer definitely looks quality, I just hope it doesn’t get so weird solely in the name of creative boundary pushing that it becomes incoherent. While DID is without question central to Moon Knight’s character, there needs to be a spine of a reality for audiences to grab hold of. Especially if he’s going to (hopefully) be around for the long haul and a larger part of the MCU.

@Tasmaniac - If afraid of the opposite. That they make him sane before the end of the season so that he becomes a regular Marvel hero so we can be inspired and look up to him like most other heroes..

Don’t seem like Moon Knight fans are too hyped about the magic costume

But can this show sustain a week to week hype once the initial curiosity wears out? Disney + shows don't have a particularly good track record in that regard.

@Kingdork - bullcrap. That’s here, not in the real world. Cool people love it. We’re neurotic negative nerds

Glad Moon Knight is gonna get the widespread recognition he deserves. The visibility he will gain from this show is a win.

Every time I see news like this I think about those "MCU is dead after Endgame" comments, which continue to age like milk

Kinda been understated but all these D+ MCU shows have been super successful, which is great because Marvel were already starting with high concept/experimental shows. Now that they've seen that work, they can focus more on the structural issues each of their shows have suffered from to varying degrees. Hopefully Moon Knight being the first of these to truly focus on one character helps with the focus

@OmegaDaGrodd - hey milk ages great in freezers! Preserve the hate! Can’t drink any tho but if you could, you’d have to soon as it defrosts! No billions after Endgame! Now on cereal!

@OmegaDaGrodd - the cereal doesn’t have to actually touch the milk, but if you’re that particular, you cut gallon off just right you’ll have gallon shaped block of ice milk to chill your corn flakes in. Just make sure you eat it in a walk in freezer so it doesn’t melt, nobody like soggy cereal, and Spider-Man was a fluke, it was really Sony, all these sequels will make Eternals look like avatar. Really really good. Eat milk!

@OmegaDaGrodd - To be fair, the movies have been 1 from 4 so far…
OmegaDaGrodd
OmegaDaGrodd - 1/22/2022, 5:15 PM
@Tasmaniac - not sure what "1 from 4" means but what I do know is they released 4 of the 11 highest grossing films including the highest (with zero China releases), 2 of which were critically acclaimed, and also dropped 3 to 4 hit TV shows that all generated varying awards nominations. That's all with them dropping more in a calendar year than ever. If anything they've come more alive since Endgame

@OmegaDaGrodd - As in, 1 out of the 4 films was actually any good - though to be fair & transparent, I have yet to see Eternals, but the general consensus is that it’s rather ordinary. Gross doesn’t necessarily mean a film is good: The Star Wars sequels are a perfect example. And proliferation doesn’t mean quality. McDonalds sells a shitload of burgers every day, but that doesn’t make them haute cuisine.

@Tasmaniac -

There is no universal metric that determines if a thing is "good", only various metrics that determine if something is thriving or not. In Marvel's case, 2021 showed them performing extremely well with critics, audiences, box office and with home viewers as well on streaming for the first time

Those are the indicators of whether something is "alive" or not. You or I enjoying or not enjoying their movies doesn't dictate or indicate the current strength of the franchise

Nah, dude wasn’t even featured in the trailer.

The trailer premiered during one of the playoff games which already has a huge built in audience. Moon Knight is a pretty fringe marvel character with a pretty damn good actor playing him.

It definitely caught eyes.
