Marvel TV Developing NEW WARRIORS Comedy Series Featuring SQUIRREL GIRL

There's been a lot of buzz surrounding Squirrel Girl lately, but it has now been revealed that the character will take centre stage in a New Warriors comedy series being developed by Marvel TV and ABC...

A Squirrel Girl movie always seemed like a long shot (regardless of Anna Kendrick's interest and the enthusiasm of the Russo Brothers), but TV Line has now revealed that the character is heading to the small screen. Apparently, Marvel and ABC Studios are developing a New Warriors comedy series which will put the spotlight on the obscure hero who has become a real fan-favourite in recent years.

The half hour series won't air on ABC though as it is apparently being shopped around to both cable and streaming services (a sign perhaps that it will be a little more adult in nature than Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). It's certainly an interesting idea, though it sounds like it's still early days for the project.

"Described as the junior version of The Avengers," the site adds, "the New Warriors are a superhero squad made up of teenagers, one of whom would include Doreen Green (aka Squirrel Girl)." A show like this will give Marvel the opportunity to highlight a lot of relatively obscure younger characters from the comic books, and while no other names are mentioned, the likes of Speedball and Justice showing up seems likely. Is Anna Kendrick to big for TV? I really don't know the answer.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - She's probably too big for network television, but if Netflix or some other streaming service were to pick up the show, then I could definitely see her signing up to do it.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - No way, Anna Kendrick really isn't that big at all. I'd have considered Charlie Cox bigger than her and yet he's on telly. TV is sometimes better than movies, you certainly get more screen time. The success of TV shows can sometimes totally outweigh any movie, just take Friends as a prime example...

@EpitomeofAwesome - I think of Squirrel Girl more as a teen or early 20's, not mid 30's.
