SECRET INVASION Star Don Cheadle Confirms Series Directly Leads Into Planned ARMOR WARS Movie

Teasing War Machine's role in Secret Invasion, Don Cheadle confirms that the Disney+ series will lead directly into the Armor Wars movie. What does that mean? Find everything we know so far right here...

Armor Wars was originally planned as yet another Disney+ TV series, but Marvel Studios decided to shift gears and move forward with it as a movie instead. That suggests the stakes will be incredibly high, and we'd put money on War Machine being joined by Ironheart in the project (which is rumoured to be getting a new title).

Right now, Don Cheadle's Rhodey is the lead, though, and the actor has confirmed his upcoming role in Secret Invasion will be key to what we see in Armor Wars

"It’s bananas! And it’s very expansive," the actor said of the way the MCU has grown since the Infinity Saga concluded. "And obviously now that everyone can show up in everybody else’s story...I mean, I’m in 'Secret Invasion'. So I’m in Sam [Jackson]’s show. There’s a part of that, that kicks off what happens in Armor Wars."

As for what fans can expect from War Machine in Armor Wars, Cheadle is clearly excited to better explore the character when he's not a supporting player to Iron Man and The Avengers.

"I don’t think we’ve ever really dug into him, and now it’s an opportunity to really explore his emotional life, his interior life, his relationships, his trajectory, where he wants to go, what his challenges are. Obviously, you have to pay off the Marvel stuff. And be in the lore of the mythology of the character and the MCU in general."

"But trying to really build out this character and make him a three-dimensional dude is what the goal [is]," the actor continues. "So I’m excited about that."

It's hard to say what in Secret Invasion will set the stage for Armor Wars, but the Department of Damage Control acquiring Tony Stark's tech is likely to be key, especially if the organisation has been infiltrated by Skrulls. With Ironheart reportedly introducing Obidiah Stane's son (played by Alden Ehrenreich), that series is also sure to be crucial to the movie as well.

Secret Invasion is rumoured for a May release, while Armor Wars remains undated.

I'm sure the cgi will look top notch lol

@bobevanz - I expect as much. Part of the reason they're making it into a movie is that they have a bigger budget for suited-up action

Those two projects and captain America, New World order are what I am most excited for. Tell you the truth I’m feeling better about Thunderbolts than I was. I fully expect some Red Hulk shenanigans. He’ll probably decimate the team. One can hope, yeesh

@TheWalkingCuban - Secret Invasion looks soooooooo good. It reminds me of the older MCU, like Captain America The Winter Soldier. Which to this day is still my favorite MCU project.

I'm really hoping they don't mess it up. New World Order sounds interesting too, I just don't know enough about it yet. But Secret Invasion leading into Armor Wars sounds strange. I'm assuming someone is going to get their hands on Stark's iron man plans, but how that fits into a Skrull Invasion seems weird.

I'm actually feeling the opposite about Thunderbolts, especially with rumors of Red Hulk AND Sentry being in it? That team of Thunderbolts couldn't hold the jack strap of either if those characters lol.

@CorndogBurglar - yeah that team has no Venom, Chinese radiation guy, Penance, it ain’t barely got no powers. But yeah probly right on the armor stuff

@TheWalkingCuban - Haha. Chinese Radiation Guy. It's funny because his name is Radioactive Man, which used to always remind me of the Simpsons character.

@CorndogBurglar - haha nice, loved radioactive man way back. Used to love the Simpsons arcade fighting game and the Bart’s Dream or something on SNES

I just wonder when we can expect this movie. My guess is 2025 the earliest, and even then I'm being optimistic.

Anyway, I look forward to both Secret Invasion and Armor Wars. The spy/military of the MCU is still my favorite since CATWS, and look forward to more after FATWS.

@bkmeijer1 - CATWS is still my favorite MCU movie. So I'm really hoping these two projects are something special.

I'm okay with Armor Wars coming in 2025 if Secret Invasion sets the stage for it. I'm really just glad that it looks like Cheadle is finally get his time in center stage. Dude has been way overdue for his own War Machine project, quite honestly.

@CorndogBurglar - CATWS is definitely my favorite MCU movie as well, closely followed by Guardians of the Galaxy. 2014 was a good year (also if you count Days of Future past on the Fox side).

And yeah, I can wait that long as well. It's not even that far off, considering it's also little over three years until Secret Wars.

What about making stuff worth seeing instead of stuff which only exists as set-up for another stuff which is going to be more set-up for more stuff that might come out in 5 years?
Marvel has become a meme.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 1/12/2023, 7:51 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - Thats kind of exactly how comic books work. And the MCU was originally created to mimic comics on screen. So I don't see the problem here.

bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 1/12/2023, 7:57 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - things can both tell it's own story and set some stuff up for the future. Those two are not mutually exclusive.

Also, five years? More like three and a few months, because that's how long we have until Secret Wars.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 1/12/2023, 8:36 AM
@CorndogBurglar - And that is why people stop reading them.

@bkmeijer1 - But that hasnt being the case in Phase 4, and considering the reception it got, it shouldnt be how they promote the next phases.

Why should I watch Secret Invasion?
Because it sets-up Armor Wars
Why should I watch Armor Wars?
Because it sets-up Kang Dinasty
Why should I watch Kang Dinasty?
Becuase it sets-up Secret Wars
Why should I watch Secret Wars?
Because it sets-up Phase 7

@TheHumanSpider2 - at no point did it feel like that's the way they go around promoting projects in my opinion.

It is indeed far more interconnected now that 10 years ago, but each story does still tell it's own story. That it sets up other stuff is just a bonus.

@TheHumanSpider2 - Comics have been doing it for decades. Even at their highest point they were doing it. Sales have risen and fallen several times over the years. But stories leading into other stories has been a constant.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 1/12/2023, 9:26 AM
@CorndogBurglar - I dont see them coming back for their current state.
And it started with them doing event after event, and having to buy 12 different series to understand the event itself (Civil War itself was shit, the meat of that story was in the tie-ins).

That was a problem that didnt affect the movies, but started to do it in Phase 4, MoM being the clearer example.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 1/12/2023, 9:32 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - Yearly events do suck, but stories leading into other stories has been a thing long before events became a staple. In fact, some of the highest comic sales of all time have come during the age of yearly events. And there's no way anyone can tell how many people quit reading comics and then went back.

But I can tell you that the modern comic landscape has much bigger problems to sort out that is driving away readers. Moreso than yearly events.

@TheHumanSpider2 - You clearly don't understand the medium upon which these movies are based cause setting up the next thing is how you bring back the audience. hell all TV shows do it and franchise movies do it. you can do setup for another project and still have a full stand alone movie in its own right. the setup could simply be a few scenes, an end credit or a character who will factor later on. i fail to see the issue with this. empire strikes back was its own beginning to end movie that also successfully setup return of the jedi towards the end.

It’s sad marvel makes movies with main characters all side characters wasp war machine and others gets sideline less attention until end game is over then those side characters teammates Bucky and falcon get more attention once main characters died retire it should be equal close to it looks more side kick taking second best picks up main characters left off

Armor Wars with no Tony Stark/Iron Man is bullshit. F-You Marvel.

I wonder if they'll rename it War Machine: Armor Wars? Sounds strange but Armor Wars by itself doesn't really feel like the title of a Marvel movie for some reason.

It should be nice to finally get a spotlight on his character.
