Director Matt Shakman helmed all 9 episodes of WandaVision, something of a rarity when it comes to Marvel Disney+ shows. The television side of the MCU started out with this model for its first few television offerings, including The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki season 1, and What If...? season 1 but moved to a multi-director strategy starting with Hawkeye.
Shakman rode the positive wave of fan and critic reviews for WandaVision into securing a directorial gig on Apple TV+'s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and ultimately that wave crescendoed with Shakman securing directorial duties on Marvel's upcoming Fantastic Four film.
in an interview to promote Legacy of Monsters, Shakman briefly touched on the chances of WandaVision receiving a second season and if not, whether fans should view Agatha: Darkhold Diaries as season 2.
Speaking to The Direct, Shakman stated:
“I don't think so, you know, we were telling a very specific story, a complete story; a story about grief, about Wanda's journey, having lost Vision, and we completed that story. And Jac Schaeffer is an amazing writer who wrote 'WandaVision', [and she] has created a show called 'Agatha'.”
[‘Agatha is] not a 'WandaVision' Season 2, but it's definitely existing in that universe, of course, and with some of the characters that you met on that show, Agatha, in particular… So, you know, there are elements of 'WandaVision' that are out there still in their own way. But, a proper WandaVision Season 2, with more sitcom styles, and all of that is definitely not in the cards."
Marvel has been cagey in confirming whether the Scarlet Witch is actually still alive, following the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Currently, there are tons of rumors swirling about the role she'll play in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars but nothing has been confirmed.
In fact, there are conflicting rumors that Marvel might be looking to completely move away from the Kang storyline amid Jonathan Major's legal woes and tepid box office reception to Phase Four and Phase Five.
If fans are looking for a true sequel to WandaVision, there's also the previously announced Vision Quest series which will chronicle what the White Vision has been up to since departing Westview, New Jersey- that is, if the project is still moving forward after Disney CEO Bob Iger recently stated that the company would be looking to cut spending on Disney+ shows.
