Check Out The First Full Trailer For THE SHANNARA CHRONICLES

Last night during the VMAs, MTV released the full trailer for their surprisingly decent looking small-screen take on Terry Brooks' series of fantasy novels, The Shannara Chronicles.

Coming to MTV in January 2016, ‘The Shannara Chronicles’ is a new TV series based on the best-selling fantasy novels by Terry Brooks. Set thousands of years after the destruction of our civilization, the story follows an Elven Princess, Amberle, a half-human half-elf, Wil, and a human, Eretria, as they embark on a quest to stop a Demon army from destroying the Four Lands.

Jon Favreau and Smallville duo Al Gough and Miles Millar will produce the show, which is based on the 20-strong series of novels (there has been one graphic novel also - The Dark Wraith Of Shannara - published back in 2008) in Terry Brooks' Shannara saga. The story is set after our civilization was destroyed in the "great wars", with the world reverting to a medieval state and magic re-emerging. Many of the protagonists in the story are descended from the Eleven noble family of Shannara.

The TV show will begin by adapting the second novel in the series, The Elfstones Of Shannara. The first two episodes will be directed by TMNT's Jonathan Liebesman.

I'm approaching this series with cautious optimism

Since the VMA's were mentioned, I have to ask...what was with Nicki Minaj? Is her ass getting bigger? Seriously, how much extra skin did she have back there to accommodate implants bigger than Dolly Parton's titties?

And @Gusto, I think she wants to kill your boyfriend Miley...

@Gutspinner

Agreed. I clicked on this link with low expecations seeing as how it is on MTv, but I must confess that that trailer looked pretty epic.

Oh god, maybe this would be good, but the trailer is so clichey.

Flashes. Random stuff. """epic""" visuals and so on. It's trying so hard to look like an highly-anticipated movie... But this way you only look like unoriginal as hell.

"It has begun."

Come on. Get your head off your asses. People actually gets exicted with those random pseudo-epic pick-up lines?

I didn't pay enough attention to the headline. Thought it said Sarah Conner Chronicles lol. I was like hasn't this been done?

@FrankieDedo I agree. Some nice images there but doesn't real tell you anything about the story. It is almost like the trailer was made for fans of the book only and not meant to for those who haven't read the book.

I am looking forward for this sense I am a fan of the books but I am not sure MTV is the right place for this.

My wife is reading this and she says it it "borrows" liberally from LOTR.

Ok, just because this was released at the VMA's... we all need to discuss this Kanye thing.

The issue is, I reckon "Yeezy" would be a better POTUS than Donald Trump...

Wow, looks like their budget took them further than GOT's did in terms of CGI. However, looks like there aren't as many crowd shots, so that may be the tradeoff.

Not terribly optimistic about the quality (the source material itself sounds not great), but it's at least encouraging that TV is starting to stretch budgets, because it is the medium where today's best storytelling is happening.

Looks flashy...we'll see. Its on MTV, which means it will probably be as mature as a CW show. If that's the case, its not for me

The Shannara books were not my brand of fantasy.
I can't say I'm all that interested in this.

Looks really good. I know MTV can do good, I mean Teen Wolf is one of my favorite shows, but I doubted they'd struck oil again, but it looks like they may have.

@nikgrid The first book is literally a rip-off of Lord of the Rings, but the other parts manage to create something pretty fresh and on-its-own. Enjoyable book, but nothing great. The series apparently starts with the second book (as it should).

After going to Supercon back in July and hearing Manu Bennet talk so highly of it and sounding generally thrilled about it. I've been very interested in seeing it. As far as it being on MTV, honestly I'm not minding Scream and I've hear Teen Wolf isn't that bad so I think it might not be that bad.

First I saw the title and thought, "that just sounds stupid". Then I saw the name, "Jon Favreau" and thought, "hmmm...maybe...". Then saw the trailer..."HOLY CRAP!!"
