MTV Officially Picks Up Jon Favreau-Produced SHANNARA TV Series

News that a live-action Shannara television series was in the works at MTV first surfaced back in September 2012 but now the "Music Television" Network has given a full season commitment to the show.

MTV is looking to get into the Game of Thrones business. The Wrap reports thatthe network has made a full-season commitment to a live-action television show based on Terry Brooks' Shannara fantasy series. Back in December, it was reported that Iron Man director Jon Favreau would direct however, that appears to not be the case as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles helmer, Jonathan Liebesman will direct the first two episodes. Favreau is still working on the project as an executive producer so it's not out of the realm of possibility that he'll direct one of the other episodes. The first season has received a 10 episode commitment.

The series is a very traditional sword and sorcery, fantasy series - with an added twist that the novels are set in a post-apocalyptic, medieval setting of a far-flung future where the Earth has been radically altered due to Chemical Warfare. In this setting, magic replaces science as the catalyst of human progression (although scientific achievements and rediscoveries do emerge later on in the series). Now for the important question, who's going to play Garet Jax?

OVERVIEW: Living in peaceful Shady Vale, Shea Ohmsford knew little of the troubles that plagued the rest of the world. Then the giant, forbidding Allanon revaled that the supposedly dead Warlock Lord was plotting to destory the world. The sole weapon against this Power of Darkness was the Sword of Shannara, which could only be used by a true heir of Shannara--Shea being the last of the bloodline, upon whom all hope rested. Soon a Skull Bearer, dread minion of Evil, flew into the Vale, seeking to destroy Shea. To save the Vale, Shea fled, drawing the Skull Bearer after him....

Shannara is a high fantasy series from acclaimed author Terry Brooks, beginning with The Sword of Shannara in 1977.

Shannara was a cool read when I was in middle school. Could be a good match for MTV. Of course, I haven't watched that network in 20 years, so who the hell am I to talk. I'm almost as old as Gusto!

I'm sorry if you think Teen Wolf is one of the best TV series on TV than you probably don't know much about TV or shows in particular. If you think Teen Wolf is one of the best series on TV than you probably are a hormone raged teenager, also have you seen GoT, Fargo, true detective, Hannibal, mad men, and the walking dead? Saying teen wolf is one of the best series on TV is like saying Twilight is one of the best Film series in cinema history. I can't live on this planet anymore

@CaptainAmerica31 - Amen. I've checked out Teen Wolf and I can honestly tell you that I felt my IQ drop as the episode was playing. I had to flip over and watch a WWII documentary just to balance it out. Sheesh.

Although I probably could've watched just about anything to get that weak acting and writing out of my head! >_<

"Teen Wolf is one of the best series on tv... MTV should do just fine with this series on it too."

Please replay the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer scene of Rocket laughing at Star Lord's "12% of a plan" line, and realize I'm doing the same. And I assure you, it's a real laugh.

Here's a picture to help you visualize, since I'm quite sure anyone who classifies Teen Wolf as "one of the best series on TV" is obviously lacking intelligence and imagination:

@BlindJustice

If you watch Season 3 and Season 4 it really improved and is actually pretty good. Espcially the last few episodes of 3B. Dylan O'Brien is the best actor on the show and his whole character arch that shows that is 3B. Its not one of the best shows but it is good. Season 1 and 2 were fine but they still finding their way.

Teen wolf was good for the first two seasons. Why? Cause it was actually about teen wolfs and it made sense. This new shit they're showing is so left field, random Asian chick and other random good looking high school kids who do not look their age

The man likes Teen Wolf, who cares? Get off the poor guy, art is subjective anyways. Just because some of you may not like the show doesn't it mean it's objectively bad.

Now, with that said, I don't like it either & pretty much share the same opinion as ya'll based soley on the fact that it's Teen wolf & comes on mtv, but an opinion is just an opinion at the end of the day. No need to bash someone because their opinion varies from your own.

@shamo no one is shaming him because HE likes it. People are shaming him because when he said it was one of the best series on TV he said it as if it were a fact. If he thinks so then fine, to each his own but seriously? Come on it's the golden age of TV there are so many great shows, Teen wolf making that list? Hell to the [frick]ing no
