PAN'S LABYRINTH Actress Ivana Baquero Joins MTV's SHANNARA

Well she's all grown up now, and is set to star alongside Arrow's Manu Bennett as "Eretria" in Jon Favreau's small screen adaptation of Terry Brook's Shannara saga.

Ivana Baquero Cast as Eretria in

The Wrap report that MTV's Shannara TV series has rounded out its cast with Ivana Baquero (Pan's Labyrinth, Gelo, My Other Me), who will play a human character named Eretria. The site describe her as coming "from the wrong side of the tracks, Eretria has been forced to use her beauty and wits to survive." She was raised by thieves known as the Rovers, but then joins Wil Ohmsford (Austin Butler) and Amberle’s (Poppy Drayton) quest to save the Four Lands. Manu Bennett will also star as Allanon.

Jon Favreau and Smallville duo Al Gough and Miles Millar will produce the show, which is based on the 20-strong series of novels (there has been one graphic novel also - The Dark Wraith Of Shannara - published back in 2008) in Terry Brooks' Shannara saga. The story is set after the destruction of our civilization in the "great wars", with the world reverting to a medieval state and magic re-emerging. Many of the protagonists in the story are descended from the Eleven noble family of Shannara. Apparently the TV show will begin by adapting the second novel in the series, The Elfstones Of Shannara. The first two episodes will be directed by TMNT's Jonathan Liebesman.

Get me all excited and then drop the "TMNT'S Liebesman"

Funny enough this was the first book in this series that I actually read even knowing I was reading it out of order. What caught my 10 year old eye was a hot elven woman and some cat looking thing (Splinterscat)

MTV may still be a joke, but at least they're trying to provide better shows than their typical reality TV.

o.O anytime she wants a good fauning (Pan joke) she can come see me. She grew up good.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Terry Brookes and it sounds like they are adapting my favourite of his novels where Wil and Amberle had to restore a magical tree in order to repair a failing boundary to a demon world.

Casting seems great and I can't wait.

My only reservation is that the characters from that novel don't carry over- in the next story it is another Ohmsford character set years later. Means they're either gonna try to stretch it out, change the end OR it has a very limited lifespan for a show.

I never cawed for the Shannara series.

I would FAR prefer a few Michael Moorcock series, like Elric of Melnibone, Hawkmoon, and Prince Corum Jhalen Irsei, the Prince in the Scarlet Robe.

The Eternal Champion really deserves public attention.

Why not start with the First book? It was the best. Out of the first six or so, I thought this one was the worst.

Elfstones was the best. Sword was just a LOTR rip off.
