"Do you have one more fight left in you?"
Nobody really expected Cobra Kai to last as long as it did after debuting as a somewhat niche YouTube series, but Netflix breathed new life into the show when it picked it up back in 2020.
Now, after five acclaimed seasons of the fan-favorite Karate Kid spin-off series, the streamer (via ActionNewz.com) has announced that the show will return for a sixth and final run.
Netflix shared the "bittersweet" news with a promo video recapping some of the major events of the previous seasons, and creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg released a joint statement thanking the fans for their continued support.
“Reacquainting the world with the Karate Kid universe has been our humble honor,” the trio said in a statement. “Making Cobra Kai has allowed us to join the same hallowed dojo once inhabited by the great Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub, and all the amazing original cast members. It has also enabled us to play sensei, expanding the original storylines and birthing a new generation of underdogs. We’ve never once taken this opportunity for granted."
“Our day one goal with Cobra Kai has always been to end it on our terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place we’ve always imagined. So it is with immense pride and thankfulness that we are able to announce that achievement. The upcoming season six will mark the conclusion of Cobra Kai.”
Cobra Kai may be coming to an end, but that doesn't mean other "Miyagiverse" spin-offs are out of the question! "We hope to be telling more Karate Kid stories with you down the road," concludes the statement.
