In The Mandalorian's season 2 finale, Lucasfilm used a combination of "deep fake" technology and de-ageing techniques to transform actor Max Lloyd-Jones into Luke Skywalker. Mark Hamill was enlisted to act out those scenes as well, of course, and a combination of clever techniques to synthesize his youthful voice led to one heck of a moment for Star Wars fans.
There were some minor criticisms, though, and deep fake artist Shamook was hired by Lucasfilm as a Senior Facial Capture Artist after his improved version ended up going viral on social media.
He can likely be partially credited for the amazing job done on Luke's return in yesterday's episode of The Book of Boba Fett, but another actor was enlisted as the Jedi Knight's stand-in. In the credits, actor Graham Hamilton is mentioned as the character's "Performance Artist." There is a physical similarity with the younger Hamill, though it's unclear why Lloyd-Jones didn't return (he did, however, still have a role in the series as an X-Wing pilot in "The Return of The Mandalorian").
In other news, The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and The Bad Batch actor Corey Burton did indeed reprise his role as Cad Bane for that standout sequence featuring a showdown with Cobb Vanth.
