THE MANDALORIAN Season 3 Reportedly Loses Ludwig Göransson But Gains THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT Composer

We have some disappointing news to share with you as it's been revealed that Ludwig Göransson (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) will not return to lend his talents to The Mandalorian season 3. Check it out!

The Mandalorian is widely considered the best Star Wars story told during Lucasfilm's Disney-owned era, and the show's score has played a big part in making it stand out from the crowd. While John Williams' work on the franchise is unparalleled, Ludwig Göransson has given him a run for his money with a theme that's already become iconic.

Unfortunately, Film Music Reporter (via SFFGazette.com) has now revealed that, after scoring seasons 1 and 2, Göransson will not return for The Mandalorian's upcoming third season.

Many of his themes will still be used throughout the show, so his presence will be felt in other ways, though we're sure this news will still come as a disappointment to many of you. This is pretty much the exact same thing that happened with The Book of Boba Fett when Göransson composed the opening and closing themes of the show, but had Joseph Shirley work on the series.

In fact, it's Shirley - Göransson's longtime collaborator - who will step in to lend his talents to The Mandalorian for season 3.

So, why has Göransson left the Disney+ series? We don't have a reason (and he's yet to comment), but we'd imagine it's down to his increasingly busy Hollywood schedule. The Mandalorian put the composer on the map, and he recently moved from working on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever straight into Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer.

This isn't even the first project he's had to walk away from as he also passed the reigns of Creed III's score to Shirley after previously working on Creed and Creed II.

Göransson's talents can only go so far, and we're hoping Shirley is up to the task of giving The Mandalorian a signature sound which helps it continue to deliver stories in one of the most unique and exciting corners of this Galaxy Far, Far Away.

The journeys of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars Galaxy continue in season 3. Once a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin has reunited with Grogu. Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to lead the Galaxy away from its dark history. The Mandalorian will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together.

The Mandalorian season 3 premieres on March 1.

"Göransson's talents can only go so far, and we're hoping Shirley is up to the task of giving The Mandalorian a signature sound"

He doesn't have to give it a signature sound. That sound was already made and shall continue, as written already in this very article -> "Many of his themes will still be used throughout the show"

I can play my kazoo and bring my whistle jug if they need more help on the score.

I'll empty that jug in case they call.

The theme song is the best thing about this show. Wish the movie matched the boldness of the soundtrack.

Göransson was already on the map by the time The Mandalorian came out He won an Oscar for Black Panther's score months before the first episode of The Mandalorian aired. Prior to that, he was nominated for several awards for his Creed score.

@DavidMullich - and he was also nominated for Grammys and even won a few. He's a pretty big composer/prooducer already indeed

Göransson made Wakanda Forever's soundtrack. The guy is a beast. They definitely need him for The Kang Dynasty. I could only imagine the epic orchestra styled score he can create for Kang and the council.

The score to Mando is one of the best things about it and the theme's become iconic in its own right (certainly the most iconic piece of Star Wars music not written by John Williams), but also like... it's blatantly the in-ring Rocky music?? It's crazy too cause Göransson did the Creed films of course, so it's not like it's some coincidence. Look up "Going the Distance" by Bill Conti.

Sharing the same last name ("Göransson"), who is Shirley to him? Relative? Wife? Searched and couldn't find anything about her.

I'd love if he tributed some other Astrid Lindgren Swedish classic next. I realy liked the way he did it with the theme to Boba Fett. The TV-serie Ronja Robinsdaughter have such amazing music in it.

Maybe Mio My Mio next time? ;)
(Yes, that kid on the horse is Christian Bale and the evil dude is Sir Christopher Lee.)

Possibly my favourite theme music on television atm. Glad they'll still be using it even in his absence.
