THE MANDALORIAN Season 3 Reveals First Look At STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI's Returning Praetorian Guards

Making Star Wars (via SFFGazette.com) has shared new intel on The Mandalorian season 3, including the fact one source has called it "a very overworked, mismanaged, disastrous marathon to nowhere." We can't imagine the series is about to drop off a cliff following the superb first two seasons, but chaos behind the scenes at Lucasfilm does seem to be the norm!

It sounds like there were a lot of reshoots, but we won't be fretting too much about those, and it seems the bigger issue was with how the crew was treated rather than any creative/story issues.

That's one element of the report, but the other picks up on rumours last year that Star Wars: The Last Jedi's red Praetorian Guards may make an appearance in The Mandalorian, with them potentially joining Moff Gideon in battle when he dons his own red and black armour finished off with a horned Mandalorian helmet.

The site has managed to share a first look at one of the Guards, and you can check out the design around the 6:05 mark in the video below.

This is inevitably going to lead to more Supreme Leader Snoke speculation. The series has previously hinted that Moff Gideon is attempting to bring Emperor Palpatine back through cloning, with the prevailing theory being that Din Djarin will ultimately be responsible for stopping the villain from returning to full power, hence why he was in that weakened state in The Rise of Skywalker.

The site notes that their sources informed them Andy Serkis did some motion-capture work while filming his standout role in Andor, a series that didn't require any.

With that in mind, it's possible the actor shot some scenes as Snoke, hopefully giving us a long-overdue origin story for the horribly scarred villain that addresses how he ended up being a puppet for Palpatine to control from Exegol. We'll obviously have to wait and see whether any of this happens, of course, but season 3 promises to be must-see TV yet again.

The Mandalorian season 3 returns to Disney+ on March 1.

They look far more like the blue royal guards in the prequels and the emperors red guards in Return of the Jedi. Unlikely to be related to the praetorians from Last Jedi.

@Humby - that being said, I’m sure these post-RotJ shows will eventually start setting up Snoke and the sequel story. But the Mandoverse isn’t the place to do it.

Looks like a mix between Senate Commandos, Red Guards and a little like the Preatorian Guards. And for that reason, I kinda think it's fan art.

Also, seeing the thumbnail made me realize how dumb the Preatorian Guard looked. Would've been so much better if they just used the Knights of Ren instead.

I'd gig them on looking like cosplayers using 3D printers but the original Stormtroopers were obliterated with rocks and sharp pointy sticks so ultimately it seems fitting.

Does anyone really care at this point? These "guards" and the stormtroopers are always portrayed as utterly incompetent.

serkis tried his best but snoke was a nothing character. his work in andor was excellent though. maybe they can make snoke interesting in the tv shows, idk

@tmp3 - Just out of curiosity, would you say the same thing about the Emperor in ROTJ? Not trying to be antagonistic; I'm asking genuinely here.

@TUD - i was never big on the emperor in the og trilogy either, but they never hyped him up as heavily in the movies as how force awakens tried to paint snoke. ik lucas eventually went super in depth on him with the prequels, but even then i was never big on him. feel like vader and kylo were infinitely more interesting characters than either, so johnson killing snoke was ner an issue for me

It'd be funny if his motion capture work was done with a model that just looks exactly like him. Like he's so comfortable with cgi work he can't even imagine doing anything live action anymore.

It's a good idea to use Mando to flesh out the most half-assed subplot in the prequel trilogy. Of course this raises the question of how a bounty hunter is able to go toe-to-toe with the most powerful force user in Star Wars canon. We shall see!

One of the few things I liked from that crappy movie.

I hate to sound like "that guy", but I have a relative that got a job with let's say "a company that is known for Lucas properties". They filled me in over Christmas dinner, with some tidbits and what they said, contradicts this article's sources.
