ASH VS EVIL DEAD Would Have Gone Post-Apocalyptic With Season 4; Bruce Campbell Retires From The Role

Ash vs Evil Dead was cancelled after three bloody awesome seasons, & we now know that the plan for season 4 was to go post-apocalyptic. Bruce Campbell though seems to have officially retired from the role.

Ash vs Evil Dead ended last week after three crazy, bloody awesome seasons that greatly expanded the mythos of the Evil Dead franchise. However, the initial plan was for the show to receive a fourth season, with Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert, and Bruce Campbell working on developing a season 4 right up until the official cancellation. And the series finale leaves the story fairly open-ended, serving as almost a fresh beginning for the franchise.

At the end of the finale "The Mettle of Man," Ash wakes up in a post-apocalyptic future where the outside world is unrecognizable and quite hostile. However, he is not alone as he is aided by Lexx, a robotic badass who is aligned with the Knights of Sumeria. Even though Ash had defeated the demon Kandar, Lexx informs him that the Dark Ones are still present and roaming the Earth.

According to Bloody Disgusting, season 4 would have resembled a cross between Mad Max and Fallout, except with robots and deadites. While the final moments of the series finale certainly showed how badass a fourth season could have looked, this post-apocalyptic take on Evil Dead was actually teased in the original ending of Army of Darkness, when Ash wakes up a century after he was supposed to when traveling back from his Sumerian adventures.

With the series ending on an open-ended note, fans have been clamoring for Netflix to revive the show and give us a fourth season of Ash vs Evil Dead. Unfortunately, Bruce Campbell appears to have officially retired from portraying Ash Williams, citing that after 39 years it was time to move on. While Campbell notes that Ash is as much a concept as a person, the future of the Evil Dead franchise is certainly in doubt.

Check out some badass photos of Ash in the post-apocalyptic future with his groovy Delta, Lexx, and producer Rob Tapert and finale director Rick Jacobson:

@PilotJohnGrant - Me three. Last Man Standing is being considered for A S7 revival just after 1 year. And it's very likely to happen. It could thank Roseanne for it too. So Ash Vs. Evil Dead might have a chance of being brought back for a fourth season as well.https://screenrant.com/last-man-standing-revival-fox/

@polarkyle - Low ratings, too expensive, highly pirated

@polarkyle - yeah low ratings. It was critically successful, always highly praised, but it was, according to Campbell at one point, the most pirated show out there. For example, the episodes appeared online hours before they aired.

Honestly wish we would have gotten another Evil Dead movie helmet by Raimi instead of the show. WhIle it was entertaining, it was campier than AoD was.

@Nightmare - Outside of Evil Dead 2, Ash vs Evil Dead I would argue is the greatest thing to ever happen to the franchise.

You would think they would have gave this show one more season since the original plan was Four Seasons anyway

@blitzburgh - I agree. Its kind of a shitty way to go, working on a future season only for the show to get canceled. I'm sure that Starz knew they were working on a season 4, they could have said "alright, we are canceling your show, but we will give you an opportunity to finish your vision." And season 4 didn't even have to be 10 episodes; it could have been 6 or 8.

Such bad news. This show was the best thing on TV. Maybe we can squeeze one more movie out of him to pick up after this season. Doesn't sound like it though. Bummer.
