Production recently got underway on The CW's DC Comics adaptation, Naomi, and a first official look at Kaci Walfall (Power) as the titular teenage hero is now online courtesy of a promo still which pays homage to issue #1 of the comic series.

Writer/producer Ava DuVernay shared an image of Naomi zipping through a school corridor on her skateboard earlier this month when cameras started rolling, but this marks our first proper look at the Walfall as the character.

Naomi CW Pilot

We recently learned that the first episode of Naomi might just feature a cameo from a very famous DC superhero, but that's yet to be confirmed.

DuVernay teamed with Arrow writer and co-exec producer Jill Blankenship to write and exec produce the project, which is based on the 2019 teen superhero tale of the same name from writers Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker, and artist Jamal Campbell.

The comic follows Naomi McDuffie, a teenage superhero from an alternate Earth with energy-based powers who discovers that she was sent to the Prime Universe to be preserved from Zumbado, the destructive conqueror of her home planet.

The show is expected to focus on "a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes."

Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes are also on board as producers.

I'm surprised that they're moving forward with this out of all projects

Not exactly an image that gets you excited.

Will give it a shot but not a fan of Bendis and there are shows that were scrapped that I would rather have. Like Wonder Girl or going back further into older projects, live action Vixen

CW just want to mine the DC IP and they are obviously lettin em do it.

Can't say i'm too happy about it, there are plenty of DC characters with a rich background but suddendly it's like CW wants to make their own thing, otherwise why focus on developing projects such as Naomi, Wonder Girl, Green Arrow & Black Canary or shit... the new Batwoman.

These characters were either created yesterday or are brand new.

DarkDetective
DarkDetective - 4/30/2021, 7:13 PM
@Toonstrack - no, it means characters whose whole personality revolves around their race or sexual orientation

@DarkDetective - So you don't know anything about this character then, and are assuming that? Because that isn't the case for this character.

It’s DuVernay so she will endure some ridiculously overwhelming trauma...

I want this, damn it !!

So many characters that are irrelevant are adapted to the small screen and the big screen, but my great The Question is wasted.

So Bendis recently revealed that Naomi is from a completely separate multiverse in DC's Infinite Frontier.

Possibly a whole multiverse of versions of Naomi's home-dimension. A Naomiverse.

Wouldn't it be neat if both the Earth Zero Naomi from the comics and the CW's Naomi were from the same multiverse.

Like both exiles from their home dimensions travelling as far away from their native multiverse as they can. One of them lands on Earth Zero in Multiverse One (the main comics multiverse) and the other one lands on Earth Prime (or wherever) in the Cinematic Multiverse.

That would be a pretty neat connection between the two Naomis.
