POWERPUFF Loses Blossom As Chloe Bennet Leaves The Troubled CW Series Ahead Of Reshoots

The CW went back to the drawing board with Powerpuff after the pilot wasn't quite what they hoped for, but the series has now lost one of its leads as Chloe Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) quits the show.

Variety confirms that Chloe Bennet has left Powerpuff ahead of planned reshoots. A pilot was shot earlier this year with the intention for it to begin airing on The CW this fall, but the decision was made to instead redevelop the show (The CW CEO Mark Pedowitz called that pilot episode "a miss").

The script eventually leaked online, and to call the response overwhelmingly negative would probably be an understatement. While changes are clearly going to be made, it's hard not to wonder whether the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alum has decided to just get off this sinking ship before it's too late!

The trade notes that, "According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, studio Warner Bros. Television wanted to extend Bennet’s option as they reworked the pilot, but scheduling conflicts forced her to exit instead." Now, a new Blossom will be cast starting this fall.

Dove Cameron remains attached as Bubbles, while Yana Perrault is going to return as Buttercup.

Meanwhile, talks are said to be ongoing for Donald Faison (Professor Drake Utonium), Nicholas Podany (Mojo Jojo/Joseph "Jojo" Mondel Jr.), and Robyn Lively (Sara Bellum) to also come back.

Powerpuff was announced last August, and despite those changes, is still expected to follow the pint-sized superheroes as disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime-fighting. Bennet's departure is definitely a huge blow to the series, and it's unclear what she's busy with. Unfortunately, it probably won't be a return as Quake in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

Too bad, this was shaping up to be the best thing the CW has ever made

Scheduling conflicts huh, would it be a massive stretch to say that could be Marvel related?

@BeyondtheFuture - Or maybe she just wanted to jump off a sinking ship

@Waddles - It's demanding to play one of the "9 out of 10 dentists." That's at least a 4 month shoot.

This show is doomed to fail.

@Repian - No. It was DESTINED to fail.

Is anyone going to really watch this though?

@Gandressmex - I imagine children will.

At this point they should just cancel this. It's already got such bad press and we haven't even gotten footage for it.

@LSHF - only children care that this movie has a terrible reputation already? Well then that means children are the main audience, and they're hearing the shows bad. So guess they aren't watching.

@LSHF - I meant, "I don't think children care about bad press." I'm guessing that children might be a large part of the audience.

@Waddles - Okay. Thanks for the info. The cartoon looked like it was for children, so I was guessing children would be their audience (and young girls), whom probably aren't keeping up with the bad press. But, then, I'm not a young girl or child, so I don't know what percentage of them keep up with these things. Maybe that is normal for them.

Anyway, I'm obviously in over my head on this subject, so I'll back off.

Thanks again.

@Waddles - It certainly sounds bad. I wonder who they assumed their audience was? Those who liked Pretty Little Liars (which I've never seen)?

You know how some studios are; one show becomes a hit and they assume it's what others want to see without actually understanding "why" that show was a hit.

I hope Marvel called Chloe Bennet for Secret Invasion.
