Last week, Riverdale answered the season-long mystery of who killed Jason Blossom: his dad Cliff, who then ended himself. But Executive Producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa holds out the promise of even more thrills in tonight's finale: “It has all of the different elements that are great about the show combined into one. There’s music in it, there’s romance, there’s suspense and horror." One might even call it "the ultimate Riverdale episode."
On how to top last week’s plot-heavy show, Mr. Aguirre-Sacasa received sage advice to take a moment and let it all sink in, from fellow EP Greg Berlanti. Mr. Berlanti (The Flash, Arrow) said, “‘Make sure in the finale, you leave enough time that you can focus on the characters.’ Mr Aguirre-Sacasa continues, "...it was a really good insight. For all the crazy stuff that happens up to and in the finale… there are quiet moments, and there are quiet scenes between the kids.” In other words, fans will have some quality time with Riverdale‘s two primary couples: Betty & Jughead, and Archie & Veronica.
Mr. Aguirre-Sacasa went on to tease the action, saying that the season finale “has our biggest, biggest set piece by far. Actually, several set pieces.” There might even be another shooting. Mr. Aguirre-Sacasa reminds fans to watch for the gun Betty took from Miss Grundy’s glove compartment earlier in the season, during Episode 4. The showrunner said, “The last we saw that gun, Betty had stolen it, and Alice had the gun. Keep an eye out for that gun. It’s very Chekhovian.”
