SUPERNATURAL Prequel Series THE WINCHESTERS In The Works With Jensen Ackles Set To Produce And Narrate

Are you ready for another ride in the Impala? It's been revealed today that Jensen Ackles, his wife Danneel, and Supernatural co-executive producer Robbie Thompson are developing a prequel spinoff series!

Deadline reveals that Supernatural is already making a comeback on The CW with a prequel series titled The Winchesters officially in the works. The plan is to put the spotlight on Sam and Dean's parents, John and Mary, but Jensen Ackles will return to his most iconic role to narrate the show (he'll also produce alongside his wife and Supernatural recurring guest star Danneel).

"Before Sam and Dean, there was John and Mary," reads a longline. "Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), The Winchesters is the epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world."

Jeffrey Dean Morgan played John and Samantha Smith starred as Mary in Supernatural, but it's clear that both characters will be recast for this exploration of their relationship in its earliest days.

"After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn’t over. Because like we say in the show, ‘Nothing ever really ends, does it?'" Ackles said in a statement shared today. "When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey."

The series has a script commitment at The CW, so it's too soon to say whether the network will move forward with the project. Supernatural was a big draw on the network, though, and we'd be willing to be cameras actually roll on this spinoff (unlike the last couple of attempts).

We'll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more about plans for The Winchesters

I think this would really work as an 8 episode series. It shouldn’t be a 20+ episode marathon, but rather a condensed love story taking a supernatural twist

CW is definitely desperate for content

I prefer a spin-off about a Guardian Angel with a female body. She must protect a failed man with a great future. So she protects the guy while all the demons want to kill him.

Antje Traue is the Angel

This isn’t necessary at all but if they do it they should do it with the same tone the first three seasons that Supernatural had.
You actually dreaded for the characters and what happened to their relationship.
After 5 it all became extremely formulaic :(

But they already told that. There was an specific episode in the 5th or 4th season in which they travelled back in time and met their parents younger versions and learned that the mom came from a family of demon hunters and all...

I loved this show. I still argue that the first 5 seasons are almost perfect. With that said, after that it spent 10 years slowly limping along with only the odd good episode each season and by the end was almost unwatchable. Maybe leave it be for a while

Personally I think they should skip any shows and take the Supernatural universe and story line to video games.
The potential for crazy monster hunting, demon killing, artifact using, mystery solving, curses and more is staggering.
I would love it first person style like PREY and FEAR.
The arsenal alone would be mind blowing.
Rock salt shotguns. Silver daggers. Machetes. Angel blades.
The First Blade. Iron buckshot. Dead mans blood.
Drinking demon blood. The Colt. Arrrrghhhhh

The only spinoff I want would be centered at Bobby and Rufus with a hint of Lethal Weapon...

I haven't actually seen Supernatural, but I'll be giving this a chance. Maybe even then I might reconsider watching Supernatural too (although 15 seasoms is a lot)

My idea for a sequel series is called WAYWARD.

It follows Dean and Samantha Winchester, the grandchildren of John and Mary, and the children of Sam and Dean.

Dean is the son of Sam, a meek and timid 23 year old fresh out of college, graduated with honors. He's living the life his father always dreamed of, is happy and in love at the start of the show.

Sammie (Samantha Porter-Winchester) is Dean's 25 year old daughter he had no idea about. Her mom was just one of Dean's many conquests and she was raised completely unaware of who her father actually was, until demons start showing up in her bar. Sammie is a tough as nails bad ass who owns a bar in Minnesota after her momma passed. When demons show up and tear her joint apart, she's left only with a name as a clue. Winchester.

So the events that set all this in motion... Dean and Sam are in heaven. Sam helps Cas to restore order and structure to heaven, Dean just wants to relax and finally enjoy the peace and quiet and not getting into any more trouble ever again. Angles start talking that maybe Sam should be the one making decisions, he disagrees. Slowly the angels start insisting on someone taking control. As groups of angels splinter, one group thinks maybe things were better when there was a God and a Satan, and if a Satan were to rise to power, a God would have to even things out. So they use ancient angel and demonic stuff to basically birth a prophecy, of a new King of Hell being born.

So naturally, Sam and Dean try to stop these rogue angels, but are tricked. They believe Sam to be the perfect choice for God so they try to turn Dean into the devil. It backfires and they accidentally turn Sam into the new King of all Evil. His first act is to kill Cass in front of Dean. Before Devil Sam complex destroys Heaven and Cass dies, Cass sends Dean's spirit to a limbo dimension and tells him he has a daughter, and that Sam's son has to find her.

Over time Dean's spirit learns how to reach past the veil and walk and communicate on Earth as a spirit, but not before Devil Sam sends demons after the last 2 descendants of the bloodline Winchester. Both Dean and Sammie survive their attacks but just barely. Ghost Dean materializes and speaks to his nephew for the first time. Tells him of everything, and together they set off to find Sammie.

The show will mainly star Sammie and Dean as they learn what it means to be family, what it means to be a Winchester and the responsibilities that come with saving the world, but Ghost Dean will pop up Quantum Leap style from time to time for hilarious Ghost Dean antics the way only Jensen could, giving terrible advice (Mr Miyagi Dean is not), not being able to physically interact with things he loves like the Impala or Pie, having to deal with having a super hot daughter who likes flirting with men to get her dad flustered, seeing Ghost Dean get to be a "dad" while also never having the chance to be her real father like she deserved, and the guilt of not being there for her like John wasn't for them. So many cool ways to play this.

And the 3 of them having to stop Devil Sam, who after everything that happened to him in Supernatural, still ended up being a puppet for a Devil at the end of his story... and the whole show is can we stop him from ending the world, and can we save Sam while we do it? Do we have to kill Sam's spirit to end this new Devil? Will Sam ever even get a chance to see his son and Neice brought together by his brother before they have to kill him? Is he already gone forever?

All compelling and heart wrenching stuff for Supernatural fans. I wanna see my show.
