The CW Moving Ahead With Live-Action POWERPUFF GIRLS Series And DC's NAOMI From Ava DuVernay

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that The CW is moving ahead with three new pilots. Up first is The Powerpuff Girls, a live-action adaptation of the classic Cartoon Network series.

Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier's (Veronica Mars, Sleepy Hollow) take on Craig McCracken's beloved cartoon sees "Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup as disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhoods to crime fighting." That essentially makes this a sequel, with Regnier, Cody, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden all on board as producers.

As for Naomi, Ava DuVernay and Arrow's Jill Blankenship are adapting Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker, and Jamal Campbell's DC Comics series about "a teenage girl who sets out to discover the origins of a supernatural event in her hometown."

Finally, after being announced over two years ago, The 4400 reboot is also officially on the way. As the trade explains, "the new version will focus on 4,400 overlooked, undervalued and marginalized people who disappeared over the past 100 years who are all returned in an instant, having not aged at all and with no idea what happened. They also discover they've been returned with upgrades, and likely for a specific purpose."

There's no mention of The CW's plans for The Lost Boys, Maverick, or a spinoff of The 100. It's clearly still early days for the recently announced Black Lightning spinoff as well.

Their creator Craig McCracken doesn't get nearly enough credit.
OG Powerpuff Girls were great, plus his other shows "Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends" and "Wander Over Yonder" were great too. His wife even created Friendship is Magic and that DC super girls show.
Talented bunch of people

the 4400 is a cult classic cut short. I was hoping more for a revival with the same actors but seeing this on CW they will make a show about teenagers with "upgrades" (read: superpowers). Ugh...

Powerpuff Girls being on CW kills some excitement, but I know for a fact I’m gonna check it out. Timing it for when the original audience is that age now was smart. I wonder how they’re gonna do things like Mojo Jojo or Fuzzy Lumpkins. Him is gonna be great haha.

As for Naomi, getting a show when we’ve only seen her in 6 issues plus being around Bendis’ YJ to state she doesn’t know what’s going on is odd, but I guess Yara Flor got the same thing before her comic even came out. I just wish Bendis had made Naomi more of a Jessica Jones type character instead of giving her generically ill defined cosmic energy powers.

Powerpuff Girls would be cool if they leaned into the whole adult angle, but it's CW so they won't/can't do that. Interesting concept though. Could be fun still. Just not as fun as if it were on HBO.

Wonder Girl/Yara Flor is the one I'm lookin forward to the most.
