The CW Reworking POWERPUFF Pilot With The Same Cast And A Rewrite From Producer Diablo Cody

Deadline confirms that Powerpuff is not going to series at The CW...yet. The network isn't giving up on the project, but it sounds like the pilot didn't come together the way they hoped.

As a result, writers and executive producers Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier are rewriting the pilot, and it sounds like the whole thing is going to be reshot. On the plus side, there are no plans to change the cast, with Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, Yana Perrault, and Donald Faison all still attached as of right now (time will tell whether that changes).

Warner Bros. TV Group President Channing Dungey last week said, "We’ve got a trio of terrific actresses at the center of [Powerpuff]. I’m not going to say that it hasn’t been a challenge. Bringing a children’s cartoon into live-action adulthood has been a really fine like to walk, but I think we’ve done a pretty great job walking it."

As we mentioned earlierBlack Lightning spinoff, Painkiller, also won't be moving forward at The CW. It's unclear if HBO Max or another WarnerMedia-owned network now plan to do anything with it. On the plus side, Naomi has been ordered to series, though that's no great surprise with Ava DuVernay involved from a creative standpoint (the premise is arguably more interesting than Painkiller too).

This year, The CW has six pilots in the works. Naomi and Homecoming are going to series, Powerpuff and Tom Swift remain in contention, and Our Ladies of Brooklyn and Painkiller have been passed on.

There's no word now on where Powerpuff will debut, but it certainly won't be in time for the Fall.

I honestly don't see the need for a live action adult power Puff girls in the first place. Best part of the story is that they're children with crazy powers. I'm not sure how that will translate to them being plain adults
