New Extended Promo & Stills For THE VAMPIRE DIARIES Season 8, Episode 14: "It's Been A Hell Of A Ride"

With just three weeks to go, The Vampire Diaries is now really upping the ante by uniting two of the series' biggest villains ever, which can't mean anything good for Damon and Stefan Salvatore.

Last night's episode featured a few interesting developments, headlined, of course, by the return of Chris Wood (Supergirl) as Kai Parker, who by hour's end, got back to his villainous ways as he managed to take down Damon and kidnap the sleeping Elena. We also learned more about Bonnie's psychic blast, which apparently opened up her own personal dimension and helped her reunite with Enzo. Meanwhile, Stefan had to deal with the ghosts of his past (while also having another brush with death) and is now on a path of redemption.

Next week's episode, which officially kicks off the endgame, will finally reunite the Salvatore brothers on an absolutely insane mission to save Elena & stop Cade once-and-for-all, but judging by the latest promo, all is not going to go according to plan and one of the brothers may find themselves on a one-way trip to Hell. Elsewhere, Alaric & Caroline will have to deal with their daughters' burgeoning magical powers.

Check out the new promo for episode fourteen, titled "It's Been A Hell Of A Ride," below:

Plus, here's a first look at the series finale, featuring the first footage of Nina Dobrev's return as Elena Gilbert:

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES sinks its teeth into its final season with more high-stakes romance, adventure and drama than ever before. Last season, our heroes rebuilt their world without Elena, and Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice King) began their much-anticipated yet complicated relationship. Meanwhile, Damon pursued a vendetta against his mother Lily (guest star Annie Wersching), who abandoned her sons to care for vampire-witches. Lily’s misguided choices caused her own demise and Rayna forced Stefan to go on the run and leave Caroline to make a new start with Alaric. Damon enlisted the help of the Armory, but the Armory’s deeper agenda endangered Bonnie’s life. To remedy the crisis, Damon and Enzo entered the Armory’s occult vault. The triangle of Stefan, Caroline and Alaric will team up with Bonnie in season eight to search for the two most important men in her life – even though Damon and Enzo may be long past saving.

The Vampire Diaries features:
Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert/Katherine Pierce
Paul Wesley as Stefan Salvatore
Ian Somerhalder as Damon Salvatore
Kat Graham as Bonnie Bennett
Candice King as Caroline Forbes
Zach Roerig as Matt Donovan
Matt Davis as Alaric Saltzman
Michael Malarkey as Enzo St. John
Michael Trevino as Tyler Lockwood
Steven R. McQueen as Jeremy Gilbert

Wole Parks as Cade
