WarnerMedia Is Looking To Sell The CW, The Network That’s Home To Shows Like THE FLASH And BATWOMAN

It’s been revealed today that WarnerMedia is in the process of selling The CW, but what does that mean for your favourite DC TV shows like Superman & Lois and The Flash? Here's everything we know so far...

The AT&T-owned WarnerMedia and ViacomCBS are looking at selling most or all of The CW Network according to The Wall Street Journal. The network, which primarily caters to teenagers and young adults, reportedly has several interested parties looking at making this acquisition, including the U.S.’ biggest broadcaster, Nextar.

Before you start panicking too much about what this means for your favourite DC TV shows, the site notes that "The most prevalent scenario is Nexstar’s taking a controlling stake in the CW, with CBS and WarnerMedia remaining as minority owners and receiving commitments to be the primary program suppliers for the network." In other words, they would continue making shows like The Flash and Superman & Lois

It’s a little surprising WarnerMedia isn’t taking this opportunity to make those DC TV series HBO Max exclusives, but the fact the network itself hasn’t been profitable for several years doesn’t mean the content itself isn’t.

Selling shows like The Flash and Riverdale to Netflix makes The CW a lot of money (nationally and internationally), though it does sound like the plan moving forward is to bolster the HBO Max subscription numbers by sending those shows there instead. With that in mind, it makes sense to sell the network itself, but keep making shows for it that can then be used to drive up revenue elsewhere across the WarnerMedia empire.

We’ll keep you updated, particularly if this does end up having any sort of impact on the DC TV slate.

No one will want it,they've tarnished the name of the company by putting shit shows on it.

Superman And Lois is the only good show.

@marvel72 - Ahh yes, the network thats been around for years and has a huge teen / young-adult audience doesnt have anyone to buy it...

Yeah sure, CW doesnt bring in the same numbers as a lot of other big networks but that's not something they've ever cared about. Their focus has always been on the younger market and they've excelled at that. You'd be stupid to pass up on this offer, especially with how many shows they can syndicate or sell to companies like Netflix.

@marvel72 - It's not really a CW show, it's just on CW. I respect those that love Legends and Stargirl, but beyond that the formula is mostly the same for all of these shows. Take The Flash for example...

The Worst Part is that the CW shows could have been so much more. Arrow Season 1, Flash Season 1, Superman and Lois season 1, are all genuinely enjoyable seasons of TV. Too bad the first two shit the bed. Hopefully Superman and Lois doesn't crash and burn

This would've been great news if it happened several years ago because it would've ended the Greg Berlanti DC-crap series. But now WB can just move his sub-amateur quality series to HBOMax. However, AT&T might eventually tire of paying Berlanti to create such an abundance of trash-TV.

Cause, lol, can't say i'm happy with the current status quo and any type of change is much needed and could end up making things better...or the final nail in the coffin, i'm good with that too. :P

It would be funny if a streamer like Netflix or Amazon bought it. Then edited their original content for network standards and aired that and it ended up getting higher ratings than the CW gets now.
