Harvey Weinstein's plans to trim Snowpiercer by 20 minutes left fans, and indeed those directly involved with the movie, in dismay -- but there is hope! It seems Mr. Weinstein may have changed his mind after Bong Joon-ho's original version tested higher with audiences than the snipped one, and also became the most successful Korean movie ever released in France. Here's what the director of the film had to say at the Mar del Plata Film Festival this week.
“I stayed in New York for two weeks before coming here to Mar del Plata, mostly because of this matter, and the good news is that after all the speculation and comments about that 20-minute cut, and considering the original version that was released in Korea and France also will be released in Japan and Hong Kong, we have been talking a lot about keeping the original cut for the U.S. release, so what I can say is…have faith.”
Snowpiercer is an adaptation of the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige and is set for release sometime in 2014.
