Venom: Let There Be Carnage grossed over $500 million at a time when the box office was still recovering from the pandemic, and with a $110 million budget, the sequel was obviously a big success for Sony Pictures. 2018's Venom performed quite a bit better with a massive $850+ million haul, of course, but numbers like these are more than enough to justify a third instalment of the Marvel Comics franchise.
Well, that's officially happening. While no details were shared during the Sony Pictures' CinemaCon presentation yesterday evening, a third Venom movie is currently in the works.
We don't know if Andy Serkis will return to take the helm following Venom: Let There Be Carnage, though many fans will no doubt be hoping to see him back behind the camera. After all, he seemed to have a much better grasp of the character than Venom director Ruben Fleischer, and laid the groundwork for a third chapter by teasing plans for Detective Patrick Mulligan to transform into Toxin.
While Venom briefly visited the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Spider-Man: No Way Home, we're not anticipating Tom Holland's web-slinger factoring into this threequel as the two never met.
Sony also shared a title treatment for Kraven the Hunter, along with a few seconds of footage. Apparently, all it showed was Aaron Taylor-Johnson hanging on to a car and trying to punch through the windshield as well as a scene with him running through the snow. It's still early days for the movie, though we are a little surprised that there was no "money shot" of the actor in Kraven's classic costume.
Venom 3 doesn't have a release date, but Kraven the Hunter arrives on January 13, 2023.
