Mortal Kombat Rebirth To Return As Web Series

Reports have come in that last summer's concept trailer based on the popular game series will become a new, 10-part web series with production beginning next month.

Last year, the internet went a buzz when a short, concept trailer based on the Mortal Kombat series hit the web. With conflicting reports from the actors and production crew of the short, it was unknown if the the short was promoting a new film or a new video game. However, it was revealed that the short, entitled Mortal Kombat Rebirth, was made to reignite interest in studios to move forward with a feature length adaptation of popular videogame series.

While developments on a new film have been few to none, It's been revealed that Warner Premiere has greenlit a new, 10-part web series based on the viral short. Director Kevin Tancharoen, who helmed the orignal short, will return to helm the as well as write the series alongside Spartacus: Blood and Sand scribes Todd and Aaron Hebling.

The series is to see the return of Michael Jai White as Jackson "Jax" Briggs. Casting is under way with the roles to be cast including classic charcters the likes of Shang Tsung, Liu Kang, Sub Zero, Durak, Kabal, Kitana/Mileena and Scorpion. The basic plot details are that "Earthlings will fight to save the planet from Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung, two Gods ruling over parallel universes".

Shooting is to take place in February in Vancouver, British Columbia. No release date for the series has been set. It unknown whether or not a new film is still in development or if the development of the new web series will interfere with development on the aformentioned film.

well this is not the true Mortal Kombat so its better for it to be a web series instead. Mortal Kombat Rebirth should never turn into a film. the whole Mortal Kombat Rebirth story for the characters is a mess. killing of Johnny Cage was the biggest "FAIL" once again.

if WB makes a R-Rated movie of Mortal Kombat stay true to the Mortal Kombat universe and characters.
