BOX OFFICE: SONIC Remains At #1 Despite Strong Competition From THE CALL OF THE WILD

Not even Harrison Ford and a cute doggo were enough to outpace Sonic the Hedgehog at the box office this weekend, as Paramount's video game adaptation remained on top with a three-day total of $26 million.

It was the battle of the cute CGI critters this weekend at the box office, and despite a very respectable opening for The Call of the Wild, 20th Century Studios' adaptation of Jack London's classic novel was unable to outpace Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog.

The first big-screen outing for the little blue speedster remained at the top of the domestic box office for the second weekend in a row, with a three-day total of $26.3 million. The Call of the Wild, meanwhile, came very close to matching it with $24.8 million.

Overseas, the Hedgehog has raced past the $96 million mark, bringing its worldwide total to $203.1M. The only major release next week in Blumhouse's Invisible Man reboot, which has some solid buzz and a well-known IP going for it. It remains to be seen of that's enough to knock Sonic off the top spot, however.

Here’s the full domestic top 10 for February 21 to February 23 (via The Playlist):

Sonic the Hedgehog – $26.3M ($107M Overall)
The Call of the Wild – $24.8M (Debut)
Birds of Prey – $7M ($72.5M)
Brahms: The Boy II – $5.9M (Debut)
Bad Boys for Life – $5.86M ($191M)
1917 – $4.4M ($152M)
Fantasy Island – $4.2M ($20M)
Parasite – $3.1M ($49M)
Jumanji: The Next Level – $3M ($311M)
The Photograph – $2.8M ($17.6M)

@Humperdink - Maybe, but pretty much every single review I read singled out Carrey as a highlight, and a reason to watch.
