Hot on the heels of their Flash scoop, The Hollywood Reporter is back with another big get as they've learned that Deadpool director Tim Miller has signed on to develop a film adaptation of the immensely popular video game series Sonic the Hedgehog for Sony Pictures.

He'll be joined by his longtime Blur Studios collaborator & fellow Academy Award-nominee Jeff Fowler (Gopher Broke), who is expected to helm the project while Miller serves as executive producer. Neal H. Moritz (Fast & Furious franchise), Takeshi Ito, & Mie Onishi will be on-board as producers and the Golan the Insatiable writing duo of Patrick Casey & Josh Miller are currently penning the script.

The film, which will follow the titular Sonic and his friends Tails & Knuckles on an all-new adventure, is being described as a hybrid CG-animated/live-action family film, which sounds like something right in Miller's wheelhouse.

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

@MrDandy - The problem is that studios don't respect the source material and want to make it their own. Look at the new Assassin's Creed film. That movie looks like pure garbage. It has zero respect for the source material and it's plotlines are not what the game was about.

The Assassin's Creed film is basically turning people into Fight club participants. That was never the concept of the games.

Bad idea

Actually, this makes a lot of sense. Blur's animations are positively amazing. The only problem is that Sonic is a franchise that has been creatively dead for over a decade. If they built it based on the comics and SatAM sort of vibe, then it could work, but it's more likely that Sega is going to insist on focus for the characters like Cream and Rouge that simply do not translate to Western audiences.

Just as long as Sony didn't hire Tim Miller to make the next Smurfs franchise.

Sony should get him to direct X-O Manowar or Bloodshot.
