There's a new Wonder Girl series in works at The CW, and the show will focus on a character who will be introduced as the new Wonder Woman in DC's Future State event this January, Yara Flor.

The show hails from Greg Berlanti and Queen of the South executive producer/co-showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez, and will center on "Yara Flor, a Latina Dreamer who was born of an Amazonian Warrior and a Brazilian River God, learns that she is Wonder Girl, and with her newfound power must fight the evil forces that would seek to destroy the world."

Wonder Girl will mark the first time a Latina superhero has headlined a DC TV series.

The show is expected to explore the origin story of Flor, who was recently revealed as a new take on Wonder Woman - even though she hasn't actually been introduced in the comics yet. January's Future State event will feature an adult version of the character, but DC is also set to publish a new Wonder Girl comic series from Joëlle Jones.

What do you guys make of this news? Can we assume more of the Future State characters will join the CWVerse at some point? Drop us a comment down below, and check out some official Wonder Girl concept art.

Why couldn’t this have just been a Wonder Woman show?

@Will44482 - well wonder woman does have movies. Doubt the flash tv series would have happened if the movie had been made first.

Almost did have a wonder woman show before they decided to fast track The Flash

Well i guess the arrowverse will have some sort of comic trinity with Batwoman, Superman and Wondergirl. (Although the real trinity is for sure green arrow, flash and supergirl)

Hopefully season 2 of batwoman is an improvement and if this show happens then hopefully its good. Cant wait for superman and lois

So not Donna Troy or Cassandra Sandsmark? Was kinda hoping to the latter, but maybe we'll see her in Titans.

Don't know much about this characters, but sounds pretty interesting. Definitely sounds she'll be an actual Amazonian.

Also, where is the Static show!?

@bkmeijer - with the movie coming I guess that’s the priority

@bkmeijer - we dont need 2 electric themed street level heroes on the same network at the same time
Battabing
Battabing - 11/16/2020, 2:44 PM
@bkmeijer - Donna Troy is on HBO Max with Titans, waiting to be resurrected from the dumbest death in TV history.

@BlackBeltJones @Dracula - I kinda forgot about the movie. But now that I remember I'll just look forward to that

@Battabing - that's a title Deathstroke has a claim too as well. The Deathstroke from the same show that is

@bkmeijer - Yeah, that was pretty terrible, too. Season 2 had some highlights, but overall was nonsensical.

bkmeijer2 - 11/16/2020, 3:23 PM
@Battabing - Deathstroke had such a good build-up, but the ending looked like they ran out of budget. Nonsensical is the word I'd probably use too (and I hope I won't after next season)

@bkmeijer - Like I've said before, that show needs a new showrunner and Akiva Goldman needs to get the boot. I just don't know how he keeps getting work. He's [frick]ing terrible.

@Battabing - Goldsman is hit or miss for me, and here he is definitely the latter. They could use somebody like Jeremy Carver, because he does a solid job with Doom Patrol

@bkmeijer - I think the last good thing Goldsman wrote/produced was A Beautiful Mind.

@Battabing - I liked the Robert Langdon movies and I Am Legend, both those are also from a while ago (I don't know about his work on Star Trek though)

Lol Future State hasn’t even started yet and the CW said [frick] it. Berlanti got the mouth watering already.
Battabing
Battabing - 11/16/2020, 2:38 PM
@BlackBeltJones - I think it's because the positive response to Yara just by being introduced has been significant. She's already the breakout character of the event.
NinnesMBC
NinnesMBC - 11/16/2020, 2:34 PM
Interesting. Assuming this works the character of Yara will gain a significant amount of attraction and popularity in becoming mainstream enough for DC Future State. Then again it's hard to tell when exactly could the show debut, could be next year or in 2022, it depends on how they take things from here.

This could be an oportunity to introduce as well Diana as a mentor maybe for Yara, this show will certainly deal with a lot of WW characters.

Yara's outfit there is pretty cool, should look good once it makes the journey to live action.

@kazuma - I try to remember the good old day of flash season (1&2) and early arrow. Good days.

The arrowverse has
Superman
A batfamily member
Might get a wonder woman family member
The flash
Martian manhunter

Wonder how long before we can see someone from the aquaman family, a GL seems unlikely

@dracula - "a GL seems unlikely"

@HeavyMetal4Life - if that actually leads somewhere then great.
Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 11/16/2020, 2:43 PM
@dracula - If the "core" justice league ever formed on the CW we'd have:

Superman
Batman
WW (this version)
Flash
Martian Manhunter
Maybe Diggle GL

Which means the only one missing is Aquaman.
