After debuting the fiery teaser trailer for Dark Phoenix on Wednesday, 20th Century Fox decided just two days later to change up their release calendar a bit by delaying the long-awaited X-Men sequel to a prime summer date (June 7) and give its former Valentine's Day date to Alita: Battle Angel.
The big budget, high-concept Robert Rodriguez-directed film was previously scheduled to open this December, but was at serious risk of being lost in the shuffle with Warner Bros.' Aquaman and Paramount's Bumblebee also slated to release during the same weekend.
With the trailer now officially out online and expected to screen ahead of Venom this weekend, the studio has released four new photos and all of those intriguing stills from late last year in ultra hi-resolution. Plus, they've also updated the poster with the new release date.

The X-Men bury one of their own and based on the trailer, it really looks like it's Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence). It could always be a misdirect, but considering that she only appears in scenes with the yellow-and-blue costume and not in any scenes with Magneto (Michael Fassbender), that presumably occur later in the film, it's hard to imagine that it isn't her that bites the dust. It would also explain why Beast (Nicholas Hoult) would turn on Charles (James McAvoy).
