X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX Could Be Fox's First Marvel Movie To Be Released Under The Disney Banner

Though it likely won't make any difference to the actual movie itself, a new report indicates that X-Men: Dark Phoenix could wind up being the first 20th Century Fox film released under Disney's banner...

Amid reports that the Disney-Fox merger could be finalized a lot sooner than expected, THR has published an update on where things stand at the moment, and provided an update on the studios' combined box office strategy moving forward.

Even though Disney and Fox executives are actually prohibited from directly coordinating their efforts during the merger process, the trade reckons the Mouse House will soon begin releasing 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight and Fox 2000 titles under its banner.

Apparently, Disney won't take over marketing and distributing of Fox projects until after Alita: Battle Angel hits theaters on Feb. 14, meaning X-Men: Dark Phoenix - which recently moved up to June 7 - might end up being the first Fox film to be officially released by Disney.

While it's highly unlikely that this will have any impact on the actual movie, we might see a signification change in how it's promoted in the buildup to its release. Then again, the only difference could wind up being the Disney/Marvel logo flashing up in the theater!

The banner doesn't matter half as much as the continuity.

@LiteraryJoe - Wow, first? I think it will be funny that when Deadpool finally arrives in the MCU, everything that ever happened in the Fox movies will have existed in his universe, just one of the many in the multiverse.

In so many words, it's funny but Deadpool and the multiverse make it so that the entire messy Fox universe can exist within the MCU without actually effecting it, if they play their cards right. Perfecto.

@LiteraryJoe - I think that makes it so Ryan Reynolds can reprise his role. Which is good because I think he's the only character that people would be angry if they recast. Marvel has never kept another studios casting decision or continuity but given how little Deadpool cares about continuity and how popular he is, I think they'll make an exception for him. Cable and Domino I'm not sure about.

Once Disney gets control of Fox, they should burn all copies of Dark Phoenix and New Mutants, along with Kinberg's contract.

Well one this is for certain, Kevin Fiege has a glorious plan & I’m willing to bet the Russo’s will be involved either directly or indirectly.

They really need to just scrap this thing or release it online. No way it makes any money and it’s just going to further delay them joining the MCU.

Count me in for not going to see this in the theaters, buying the bluray, paying to rent it streaming. I'll see this when it hits hbo/showtime/netflix/prime or whatever. Sorry, but I'm not stupid enough to give this broken franchise any money

@Starscream24 - I did. It wasn't good. I think the only X-film I moderately enjoyed was X1 because at that point, who knew we'd have people making comic movies that...gasp...actually cared bout the quality and source material, rather than a cash grab.

Its just like The Avengers starting with the Disney banner, it won't make any difference to the movie itself
