Fan Cast: THE ASTONISHING X-MEN

Fan Cast: THE ASTONISHING X-MEN

I consider myself an X-Men fan, and a Joss Whedon fan. I just read a X-Men comic by Joss Whedon. I would consider it a personal failure if I didn't make a fancast.

I recenetely read Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men, and I was...Astonished (*Nudge,Nudge, Wink, Wink*)

But out of all the comics (or graphic novels, as they call them), I can't really say that any of them entertained me like Astonishing X-Men.

A lot of purists aren't pleased by what Singer did to the X-Men, but I think they would be more than excited if we got something like The Astonishing X-Men on-screen.

Let's start with the people behind the camera.

Director: Alex Proyas
Notable Works: The CrowDark CityI'Robot

I really like Proyas's directing style, some of his shots, seem very comic book-y. He's a really good director, and considering he would be adapating a comic book, I think he's a really good fit.

Writer: Joss Whedon
Notable Works: Firefly,Dollhouse,The Astonishing X-Men comic bookThe Avengers

Do I really need to explain this? The man wrote the comic book, and he's already a proven writer...so yeah, I choose him.

Cinematographer: Robert Elswit
Notable Works: Boogie Nights, There Will Be BloodMission Impossible - Ghost Protocol

Composer: Joe Kraemer
Notable Works: The Way of the Gun, An Unreasonable Man, Jack Reacher

I really liked his score in Jack Reacher. Certain tracks reminded me of John Ottoman and others reminded me of Michael Giacchino.

Now onto the cast.

NOTE: I'm not going to cast everybody, just only the essential characters. And I do not care if the actor has played in a previous CBM, I'm going to choose a GOOD ACTOR (Or Actress) and someone who I believe FITS the role.

Tatiana Maslany as Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat

I really hadn't read anything regarding Kitty Pryde's character. I saw the animations and didn't think much of her except "that chick who walks through walls".

After reading The Astonishing X-Men, I figured out that  Kitty Pryde is a badass heroine. She's a really cool character and I definitely wouldn't mind seeing her as the lead character in an X-Men movie.

Tatiana Maslany may not be that well known to some of you. But trust me, she's a legit actress. Her acting alone makes BBC's Orphan Black an enjoyable watch.  She handles several different roles on the show, which validates her diversity as an actress.

She would have no problem playing Kitty Pryde.

Sullivan Stapleton as Peter Rasputin/Colossus

Chris Pine as Scott Summers/ Cyclops

Natalie Dormer as Emma Frost

Tom Hardy as Logan/ Wolverine

Jeffrey Wright as Hank McCoy/Beast

Emily Blunt as Agent Brand

Tony Todd as Ord

No Xavier or magneto?
No night crawler?
Include those 3 and it'll be a damn fine cast

@Hellsboy Thanks for the comment. In the comic book, Xavier and Nightcrawler have VERY little time in comic book, and Magneto is nowhere to be found. I didn't really think there was much need in adding them to this cast.

dude this is great! Tom Hardy is my dream casting for a new Wolvie as well! I mean look at him!

If that ain't the spitting image!

I love your beast choice! Very left field! Nice work, mate!

Absolutely fantastic cast. I'm glad Hardy as Logan is catching on.

Don't like your choice of director. I'd rather Whedon did that too.

Hahaha, Tony's got quite a distinctive voice, yeah? It's not hard to imagine that voice under all the prosthetics and makeup. Astonishing X-Men. It's a great run, isn't it, mate? I loved it.

Now, I don't know how familiar you are with Dollhouse, but, given the man's propensity for casting actors he's worked with in the past, I always thought that if Joss' were to ever do Astonishing X-Men, he should probably cast Enver Gjokaj (who was one of the core cast members of Dollhouse) as Colossus. I mean, the dude ran the gamut- he did gentle, conflicted, aggressive, suave, broody, humurous, you know name it. Dude did it all on that show. He even did a Russian accent at one point, so yeah. I mean, it'd be great if he were a little taller, but I think he'd do great.

That's just me, though, maybe I'm just full of shit. Anyway, take it easy, man.

:)

Dormer as Emma would be amazing.
She's awesome at putting on a smug grin and she can even keep her own accent!

Sigh. I'm sure I spelled a few things wrong, but I don't feel like checking. I get the feeling having three cups of coffee probably wasn't the brightest idea.

@cipher Enver Gjokaj was awesome in Dollhouse, I'm really surprised that he doesn't get any notable roles.

The height is a concern for me, but acting-wise he would be a great Colossus. Thanks for the comment!

@SwanRonson Whedon is great writer in my opinion, but he has some work to do as a director in my opinion. Although if for this particular adaption, Whedon would be my 2nd choice.

@CherryBomb I was surprised how good her accent was. She could definitely hold her own as Frost.

I like Dormer. Actually, I like it the more I think about it.

I've never heard of your Shadowcat pic before. My own personal choice would be Arrested Development's Alia Shawkat.

@MCott If you get the chance to watch "Orphan Black", be sure to do so, she's a great actress in that show.

I've never seen Arrested Development, but judging from the pictures, Alia looks like a good choice for the role as well.

Tatiana Maslaney is like, scarily talented!
I think she has the perfect edge to play a better Rogue.
But still she'd be an awesome Kitty.

ndwwrestler2 - 6/10/2014, 12:06 PM
@CherryBomb It's funny, I was thinking of her as Rogue as well. It's too bad Whedon didn't include Rogue in his series.
ToxicCap

Jeffrey Wright as Beast would be amazing especially after his role in Catching Fire.
ndwwrestler2
ndwwrestler2 - 6/10/2014, 1:00 PM
@ToxicCap His role in Source Code also convinced me he could pull off a good Beast.
CherryBomb

@ndwwrestler2

Yeah it is too bad! haha, maybe in another fan cast she can be Rogue, I like her as all of the clones in Orphan Black but she's best when she's the sassier, edgier Sarah. :)

& yes, I have to unanimously agree about Wright as Beast, especially after seeing him in Catching Fire! he had a lot of Hank-like qualities and I could definitely see him in blue fur.
