Sir Patrick Stewart Officially Announces That LOGAN Will Be His Last Time Playing Professor Charles Xavier

Though Sir Patrick Stewart has previously hinted that he might be coaxed back for another turn as Professor X, the veteran actor has now revealed that Logan will actually be his last X-Men movie...

We figured this might be the case since the main X-Men saga films are focusing on the younger incarnations of the iconic mutant superheroes, but still, there was always the chance Patrick Stewart could reprise the role of Charles Xavier in some kind of flash-forward sequence as he did in Days of Future Past.

Alas, that's not to be, as Stewart has now officially announced that his superb performance in James Mangold's Logan will be the last time we see him as the all-powerful Professor X.

Stewart made the announcement at a SiriusXM Town Hall screening of the film, alongside Hugh Jackman and James Mangold:

“A week ago, Friday night in Berlin, the three of us sat, watching the movie, and I was so moved by it, much more moved than I had been the first time of seeing it. Maybe it was the company of these two guys, but the movie ended and — this is an admission — but at one point [Hugh] reached out, and he took my hand in those last few minutes, and I saw him go [mimes wiping a tear from his eye] like this, and then I realized I had just done the same thing. Then, the movie ended… and we were going to be taken up on stage, but not until the credits were over. So, we had some time to sit there and, as I sat there I realized there will never be a better, a more perfect, a more sensitive, emotional, and beautiful way of saying au revoir to Charles Xavier than this movie. So, I told [Hugh] that same evening, ‘I’m done too. It’s all over.'”

Well, it had to happen sooner or later, and Stewart's turn in Logan ensures he leaves the role behind him on a high note for sure.

Thanks for all those years bringing us your incomparable interpretation of Professor X, Sir. You'll be missed.

@grem - This film marks the end of modern comic book films that began in the late 90s:

Blade (1998) ended,
Spider-Man (2002) rebooted,
Hellboy (2004) officially dead,
Batman Begins (2008) rebooted,
X-Men (2001) ends with Logan.

The next era is all about comic book films copying Marvel's episodic films. I love the marvel franchise but each film no longer feels like a complete film, each film is always setting up the next episode like the Walking Dead.

It's a shame we couldnt have gotten more movies out of the original cast , they had such promise..

@Matchesz - seriously.. people act like they've been around or actually had a siginificant role in a movie 7/8 times when it's really only been what.. 4? (except for wolverine) and even the main core x-men didn't get that much spotlight because the original trilogy was still focused on wolverine so it's truly a shame. They haven't even been around like that.

@Matchesz - He, Sir Ian, and Hugh were some of the most ideal, iconic cbm casting we ever could have hoped for and they were wasted on some truly odious films. I'm glad these two are getting a proper ending though, they deserve it. Sir Ian got a decent one in DOFP if he's done as well.
