Hugh Jackman On The 'Logan' & 'Professor X' Double-Act In THE WOLVERINE Sequel

If Patrick Stewart is to be believed (and nobody shall doubt his word), James Mangold's sequel to The Wolverine will see the titular mutant teaming up with the older version of Charles Xavier.

It seems the events of X-Men: Days Of Future Past have allowed Fox to use the character of Wolverine in two separate movie timelines. We know that X-Men: Apocalypse will focus on the younger versions of Xavier, Magneto, Mystique and co., but if Patrick Stewart's comments are anything to go by, James Mangold's follow up to The Wolverine will find the older version of Professor Charles Xavier teaming up with Logan. During a press junket for Neill Blomkamp's Chappie, JoBlo quizzed Hugh Jackman about Stewart's recent revelations, and although he doesn't outright confirm things, from his comments I'd say it's safe to assume we're looking at a Wolvie/Xavier double act! Jackman also suggests that he's looking forward to exploring the "important" relationship between the characters.

"I'm not going to deny it. I've learned over the years to try and put my best poker face on. By the way, play poker with me if you want to win some money, because I'm terrible. But, I've always seen it as a really important relationship, and we started with that and I think it's a really important one. I think it would be really great to see it in the Wolverine movie, because we haven't really explored it in the standalone Wolverine movies. So it's not not not not not going to happen."

The prospect is definitely an interesting one, but what story could the movie follow? Because Jackman has expressed his fondness for the comic, there's speculation that we might be in for a loose adaptation of Mark Millar's Old Man Logan with Xavier standing in for Hawkeye, but I think a brand new story with plot points borrowed from various arcs over the years is likeliest. What about you guys? Sound off below.

Using 5 times "not" i think leads to false.

I mean: not not not not not=not.

Which means: So it's not going to happen.

If they do Old Man Logan, thank God Marvel doesn't own X-Men.

That whole redneck inbreed Hulk/She-Hulk family was the most retarded thing I've ever read in a comic. It was so [frick]ing stupid. [frick] Mark Miller and his perverted mind. You know you [frick]ed up a character when Frank Miller's Superman looks better than your take on whatever character you do.

It never makes sense. For the sake of argument, let's say Hulk wanted to [frick] She-Hulk. Do you really think Jen would allow it or if he did rape her, do you really think she wouldn't have tried to kill Hulk for her own safety?

Worst [frick]ing thing I ever read. Did like the Red Skull stuff but that Hulk stuff pissed me the [frick] off as a Hulk fan.

I actually don't really care about a Wolverine sequel.

Would'nt it be better if we got this instead?

In the comics it was Emma Frost that discovered Daken's existence. Maybe Xavier takes her place and helps Logan track him down.

I wonder when the present day continuity begins with the X-Men franchise. If Apocalypse is the new timeline 30 years ago and Wolvervine 2 is the present day old timeline -Deadpool and Gambit don't have anything to really anchor them to the X-Men yet. I suppose it will be 2018 before FOX gets their team back to the present and working in present day. Just 2 months after Avengers: Infinity War Part 1. That X-Men movie is going to have to kick ass to compete.

I would like it to be Xavier explaining some of the differences of what happened in the timeline while him and Xavier go on an adventure. Not sure what kind of adventure. Hell it doesn't even need a villain. Every superhero movie doesn't need the big fight ending thing.

I wasn't interested in this sequel until this news. But what will they call it? The naming conventions for the fox x-men movies gives me [frick]ing hives.

i know i will probably get booed for saying this but i would really love to see a standalone wolverine movie centred around the weapon x project.. i would love to see gritty movie focusing on the procedures that logan/james howlett went through in order to get his skeleton bonded with adamantium and all of the psychological damage (brainwashing/memory implants) that followed as a result! i'd love to see that done justice!

If it's set after "Days of Future Past" this would make sense. I'd like to learn Wolverine's new history with the X-Men and who better to learn it from than Professor X? Maybe he'll have to bring Wolverine up to speed about what's been happening between him and Sabretooth! It's about time they went head to head again.

I hope they use the new Wolvie movie to set up X-force. They could introduce angel/archangel and Psylocke and Cable in X-men Apocalypse. I think fox could pull it off for the following reasons:

Deadpool is getting his own movie in 2016.

X-Men Apocalypse comes out in 2016.

New Wolverine movie comes out in 2017. We could have a post-credits scene were Logan approaches Deadpool and the others.

Then X-Force would be released in 2018 or 2019 as an Avengers-style team-up movie.

They tried that with Origins....

I hear you, I still have Weapon X comics, love Weapon X, but hopefully they don't revisit that until they have a new actor playing Wolverine on screen. Jackman rocks but after 17 years, it's time

They've already ruined the character. No offense to Hugh Jackman, who has shown terrific commitment to the role, but from a story/script standpoint, they ruined Wolverine. The most interesting thing about Wolverine, as a character, was that he was a vicious, yet highly trained/skilled man, who had done a lot of bad things in his past (much of which he couldn't remember). So aligning with the X-Men, in a lot of ways, made him the ultimate anti-hero.
The Fox movies have created a Wolverine who was a nice guy growing up, a nice guy during the wars (keeping a rein on his brother), a nice guy under Striker's command (the only one who had a problem with the missions and the killing), a nice guy when he is on his own, he gets the adamantium for all the right reasons, has NO missions as Weapon X, then wandered the world as a nice guy right up until the X-Men found him.

Because he was always the nice guy, doing the right thing, there is no internal conflict. There's nothing for Professor X to help him with, other than getting over Jean Grey (who continually rejects his advances, yet he is constantly in love with her). Ruined.
