In the studio interview below, director James Mangold discusses what he tried to accomplish with Logan, his relationship with Hugh Jackman and what separates the film from other superhero movies.

In response to the first question, Mangold replied, "Logan is an attempt to bring an end to Hugh's amazing line of performances as Wolverine.  And the ambition of doing that is to try and make an 'adult film' about Wolverine.  To make a movie for grownups.  We're not trying to make a movie that [satisfies] everyone.  We're trying to make a movie that stands out and is different because it's kind of a grownup drama that also features intense action.

ABOUT LOGAN
Logan will be released in North American theaters on March 3, 2017. The film is directed and written by James Mangold, who returns after directing 2013's The Wolverine. The film will reportedly mark Hugh Jackman's last outing as the titular hero after having played the character for 17 years, beginning with 2000's X-Men. Patrick Stewart will reprise his role as Professor X. He'll be joined by Dafne Keen as Laura (rumored to be X-23), Stephen Merchant as Caliban, Boyd Holbrook as Donald Pierce (leader of The Reavers) and Richard E. Grant as Zander Rice (head of the Transigen project).

Logan is loosely based on the Old Man Logan miniseries from comic book author Mark Millar and artist Steve McNiven.  The plot find Logan and Professor X on the run, years after the epilogue of X-Men: Days Of Future Past in the year 2024.  For undisclosed reasons, the world has transformed into an apocalyptic landscape where mutants are nearly extinct.  Professor X and Wolverine are protecting the young Laura who somehow holds the key to a better future.

@ComicsBornAndBred - I dont think he is saying that other CBMs like the MCU arent for adults, just that those movies are aimed at children too, whereas Logan will be for adults only

Really looking forward to this, hope it doesnt disappoint.
Hopefully the success of the MCU and the disappointment of the DCEU doesnt kill the potential for future 'mature and dark' CBMs

@BatmanxBatgirl - I mean you CAN, but it's gunna be pretty brutal I'm sure. Some kids can handle it, I watched Halloween and Friday the 13th when I was around that age and if didn't effect me, but then I see kids when I work at a theater get scared at trolls lol.
