LOGAN Becomes The First DVD Screener To Be Sent Out To Academy Voters - Fox Is Pushing For That Oscar

It looks like 20th Century Fox does indeed plan to push for some Academy Award recognition for James Mangold's critically acclaimed X-Men Spinoff, Logan.

Deadline reports that the studio sent out the "for your considerations" DVD screeners to Academy voters today. Apparently, this is the very first time Fox has been first in the race to get the all-important Oscars screeners out to mailboxes.

It is rare enough to see a March release get nominated for Best Picture, but both Erin Brockovich and The Grand Budapest Hotel are the more recent movies that did manage it.

In addition to a Best Picture nod, it'd be great to see Hugh Jackman get some recognition for his terrific bow as the iconic character. Of course, best Supporting Actor nods for Patrick Stewart and Dafne Keen and Best Director for Mangold would also be ideal.

What do you guys think? Does Logan have a chance? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place.

I honestly think it deserves some Oscar recognition, I thought it was absolutely amazing

@webdude1 - It's like The Lord of the Rings win or Beck's win at the Grammy's. Sometimes you need to give it the nod or the win less because of the individual product and more because of the impact, legacy and status done by works as a whole. The X-Men movies showed that superhero films can be serious, focus on societal issues, be utterly terrible or be amazing and all over the span of seventeen years. No other movie series has done that except for MAYBE James Bond.

@webdude1 - it was ok but I largely felt it was extremely overrated

@Yaf - I agree with you 100%, especially the legacy of Hugh Jackmans Wolverine. I grew up watching him and I think his final outing was his greatest, along with Patrick Stewart's.
