LOGAN Becomes The First Super Hero Movie In History To Receive A Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar Nomination
It wasn't a particularly good year for comic book flicks in terms of the major Academy Award categories, but James Mangold's Logan did manage to make history with a nomination for best Adapted Screenplay.
Many of us were hoping that Logan would pick up a few nominations in the major Academy Award categories (not even a best Supporting Actor nod for Sir Patrick Stewart?), but the James Mangold-directed Wolverine film did still manage to make history by becoming the first superhero movie to land an adapted screenplay nomination at the Oscars.
Director James Mangold penned the script along with Scott Frank and Michael Green, and fans of the iconic hero's emotional swansong will be hoping they'll be rewarded for their great work when the winners are announced next month.
Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman was also tipped to be a surprise contender this year, but ended up being shut out completely. The Academy did favor a couple of horror/fantasy pictures, however, with both Get Out and The Shape of Water receiving plenty of recognition, the latter cleaning up with 13 nominations.
