LOGAN Is One Of The National Board Of Review's Best Films Of 2017 - Is A Best Picture Nomination Within Reach?

Fox was deep in the Oscar game last year with Tim Miller's Deadpool. With two Golden Globe nominations, no one expected it to get that far. Will they be in the running again with James Mangold's Logan?

Last year Deadpool hit the jackpot. Who knew the Merc would enjoy a bigger opening weekend than Justice League, Thor, and Spider-Man, let alone have an outstanding awards run. A superhero film getting both a Best Actor and Best Picture nomination at the Golden Globes sounds absolutely insane on paper, and it only proves how much Fox is experienced in the awards field.

Can lightning strike twice for the studio's genre films?

The National Board of Review's best of 2017 list was unvealed earlier this week, with much of the fanfare going to Steven Spielberg's The Post, but the one outlier of the bunch was Logan. Who knew a film released so early in the year would be so well remembered by voters in the midst of Oscar season?

The film definitely deserves the attention with class performances by Jackman and Stewart. If Logan keeps appearing on major critic circle compilations, could we see a Best Picture nomination on the horizon. This is the first indicator that Logan may actually be a big player in the platform.

Keep it up Fox, if you can do it with Deadpool, you can definitely do some good with Logan.

The list is as follows:

TOP 10 MOVIES
Baby Driver
Call Me By Your Name
The Disaster Artist
Downsizing
Dunkirk
The Florida Project
Get Out
Lady Bird
Logan
Phantom Thread

Baby Driver was good but come on...

Where is Good Time?

Where is Wind River?

Both are better than half of the films on this list imo.

@BlackBeltJones - The lack of A Ghost Story, Blade Runner 2049, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is also deserving. Logan, The Florida Project, and Baby Driver deserve their praise. I haven't seen Lady Bird, Call Me by Your Name, The Disaster Artist or Phantom Thread yet (due to most not being out), but they both look great. No plans on seeing Dunkirk (Nolan fatigue) and I still haven't gotten around to Get Out. Downsizing looks mediocre.

@BlackBeltJones - Good Time featured my favorite performances of the year out of Pattinson and Safdie, and I really want to see Wind River.

Might I recommend I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore, The Meyerowitz Stories, Okja, and It Comes at Night?

@TheRealTomServo - I've seen Okja and I Dont Feel at Home and both are great.

Need to see It Comes at Night.

@BlackBeltJones - It was really good. In terms of slow burn horror filmmaking, this is as close as we have to a modern The Shining. Maybe not quite as good, but similarly beautiful in its craft and effective in its building of tension. Not to mention how great Joel Edgerton's understated performance is.

@BlackBeltJones - Wind River and Blade Runner 2049 should both be on that list. I think Logan deserves to be on there though.

Definitely NOT Wonder Women @Battabing

Maybe you will get that Best Actress for Gal Gadot that you think she deserves so much while saying Brie Larson doesn't deserve hers.

@AsgardianHobo -

Never said Brie doesn't deserve her award. I said she won it during a talent drought in her category.

@Battabing - Which is basically saying that she doesn't deserve it......
