Darren Aronofsky Close To Committing To Wolverine 2

Darren Aronofsky Close To Committing To Wolverine 2

There will be no Gangster Squad in Aronofsky's future, so Deadline report that the director may be close to signing on to direct Hugh Jackman in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine sequel..

When rumors surfaced linking Darren Aronofsky to Wolverine 2, I don't think anyone really took much notice. Then when it was confirmed that he had indeed been meeting with his Fountain star Hugh Jackman, it was assumed that the movie was something he would never actually sign on for. Word came that he was in talks to direct Gangster Squad for WB, and many assumed that would be his next project.

Now Deadline report..

Scratch the Warner Bros period crime drama Gangster Squad from Darren Aronofsky's Things To Do List. That Will Beall-scripted picture momentarily seemed to be the only thing in the way of the Black Swan helmer reuniting with his Fountain star Hugh Jackman in the Christopher McQuarrie-scripted X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 at 20th Century Fox...

..Word is that Aronofsky--who worked for next to nothing upfront to get Black Swan made is in the throes of landing a healthy payday in the vicinity of $5 million against 5% of gross.

Apparently Fox hasn't closed a deal with Aronofsky's CAA reps yet, but it looks like its gonna happen. If this does come to pass, I have to applaud Fox for attempting to do go in a bit of a different direction, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what a director the caliber of Aronofsky does with Wolverine.

Is a sequel to Wolverine really necessary? seriously, [frick] FOX!

A good director who has admitted knowing nothing about the character + Fox Studios = Bryan Singer. This guy can do a lot better than that. I cant imagine it being anything other than yet another Fox piece of shit regardless of the director so [frick] them and [frick] this movie. :P

Thats the spirit Josh!!:) Seriously though, Fox do have a history of manhandling their directors, but I seriously doubt this guy will stand for that. If the script is as good as is rumored, I have faith.

If the rumors about how good the script is are true, then this could actually turn out great.

This could turn out alright with the script and this director. Atleast it can't get much worse than the last one.

@ weneedrevelation

totally agree with ya man, zack snyder gives us the comic movie style that we all love.

his perfect for wolverine, but fox is gonna flood this movie with unnecessary mutants.

look how they handled x-men first class, you tell me wolverine vs the silver samurai is gonna be enough.

not for fox.

This is the guy they did not hire for Superman because he would have wanted to get it right. That does bode well for Wolverine but I still think the PG-13 is going to hurt what might otherwise be brilliant.

I don't know how you do this flick properly with a pg-13. it'd be great if they could do two versions, one pg-13 and one rated R.

guason, thats what I wanna see, WOLVERINE, no more logan. I'm sick of logan. I want to see a super hero, I wanna see WHY this dude is feared by so many, why he's so dangerous.

in no movie so far have I gotten the impression that he's a super bad ass fighter super hero. i wanna see him in costume (updated) ripping things apart.

it's a pretty easy solution, make part of the story about the beginning of the sentinel program, the sentinels are maybe only 8ft tall at this point, but it'll give wolverine something to shred without worry about blood.

Well I could say the usual [frick] FOX but I wont lol, I was sorta looking forward to this (maybe) but with what FOX is doing with X-MEN: FIST A$$ I wont put a CENT in their pockets EVER for anything Marvel Comics related!

But I mean, how can you [frick] up WOLVERINE in JAPAN?!?

(I wont hold my breath though lol, but its got to be near impossible to [frick] this film up?)

I'll check it out somehow, but I ain't spending any money at the cinema for it! : P

@LEE, so if Fox finally gets something right, that isn't to their credit? It's just because it was "impossible to [frick] up?" I guarantee you it is possible, but signs so far point to Fox learning from their mistakes.

jbak368 @ I know dude and I hope they do learn from their mistakes (lol) but what they are doing with FIRST CLASS is unforgivable... I like most, want FOX to just make movies their good at like STAR WARS, ALIENS, PREDATOR etc and leave the cbm's alone! :)

Give 'em back to MARVEL plz lol!

Make money off the STAR WARS franchise... rich with stories!

jazz@ Exactly!:)lmao

I think they should give it just a little bit smaller budget like in Alien Prequel´s case. That how maybe they would allow the R-Rating?
Knowing Aronofsky´s work, i think he wants it to be realistic as possible. And to me that means blood.

soberchimera - 10/12/2010, 5:32 PM
I wish The Fountain had taken place entirely during the Conquistador era, those were the best parts of the movie! Still with Aronofsky behind the reins, this couldn't be all that bad. Now if they made it R-rated THAT would be interesting. Wolverine isn't owned by Disney yet so who knows?

I really think that Fox may be turning the corner here. I bet that both First Class and an Aronofsky directed Wolverine will be very good movies...And all the Fox haters on this site are going to have to answer questions as to why Fox is making better CBMs than Marvel themselves, AHAHAHAHAHA. I mean, Ironman 2 wasn't very good and who knows what Johnston is going to do with Captain American.....Things are looking good for Fox right now.
