Hugh Jackman Discusses The Possibility Of The Wolverine Being R Rated!

In a new interview actor Hugh Jackman discussed how he feels about the possibility of the next movie in the franchise being R Rated.

MTV recently sat down with Hugh Jackman and the Aussie actor revealed that although he would like to see an R rated Wolverine movie, they can't forget about the little uns..



"There’s such great temptation to make an R rated Wolverine.” says Jackman. “I’ve always felt that and I know a lot of fans would like that and I totally get it. If there is ever a superhero that’s going to be R rated, it’s Wolverine. However in the last 10 years I’ve also met many 12, 13, 14, 15 year olds who for them Wolverine is not just cool you see it in their eyes, he’s everything to them."

“My thing to [director] James Mangold, we were like ‘lets not put it off the table.’” Jackman continues. “There’s even talk about us doing 2 versions as in finding a way to do both while you shoot it, which could be really cool. But you need to have a really good reason to exclude those [younger] fans.”



Hugh Jackman will star in The Wolverine, the movie is a prequel and will be set in Japan, it will explore the past of the mutant as a Samurai, with Silver Samurai confirmed as the villain. No official release date yet

In today's society, it R-rated movies 5 years ago are now considered PG-13 today.

I remember when "F_CK" wouldn't be allowed on movie cinemas no higher than "R", but Hugh Jackman just said that on "PG-13" X-Men First Class.

I also remember when the word "ASS" was bleeped on WWE TV shows, now it's basically in every segment.

Its not about doing more after this (as this will likely be the last one) it's about making $ so it WILL be pg-13.

That said they could film it to be r-rated and edit it down to pg13 in post.

NeoBaggins - true. BTW, I have nothing against him being Wolverine, I only think visually he should be smaller with CG and/or camera tricks.

But I can't stand this defensive stance he takes on this new movie. He knows X3 and Origins sucked and keeps giving away these false arguments fans want to hear.

Mr. Jackman, just deliver us a real Wolverine movie. Read the old comics as you now say you always did (lies, btw) and try to understand why fans love that character. It's not because he's good-looking. Not just because of his claws, like Origins emphasized so much in every action / stunt scene. It's because he's uncontrollable and the ultimate bad ass. And has great story.

Shit, even the 90's cartoon was 500% more faithful to the character.

You'd have to have Marvel buy the rights back for that to happen. No way would 20th Century Fox allow something cool like this... I think, because after X-Men: First Class, they could very well be returning back to classic status.

But an R-rated Wolverine movie has to happen, as far as I'm concerned.

I want to see heads roll. The Wolverine game they came out with after Origins had some pretty "R-rated" material, if placed in the cinema, and a lot kids probably played that game so I see no reason why not to film an R-rated movie?

Personally I think it should be. The fact of the matter is he has freaking claws that would slice up anyone he is fighting. There would be A LOT of blood. Language is secondary, yes it could be part of it because wolverine is a pretty blue collar kind of guy. He is going to use some strong language. That said, as others have posted... A PG-13 theater release with and NR DVD and Blueray release would be the best. All the kids he is talking about can see it and be entertained, but then we all get what we want when we can bring it home.

An R-rated Wolverine film has disaster written all over it. Hollywood gave in to
fanboys when they made an R-rated "Watchmen" which had a huge opening weekend then dropped off the map because the majority of adults who think comic book films
are for kids couldn't take their kids to the film and had no interest to see it themselves. After that experience,no studio is going to drop 150 million or more into producing a Superhero film with out making it accessible to the widest possible audience.Perhaps Jackman may be on to something if FOX releases a PG-13 version to theaters to get families and later putting out an unrated version for Blu-ray.
