Hugh Jackman won't be homesick when filming for The Wolverine begins as Australia has secured a deal to have part of the movie filmed in Sydney. The deal is said to worth up to $80 million to the local economy, and will generate over 2000 jobs.

"The Wolverine is expected to generate more than $80 million in production expenditure in NSW and create more than 720 jobs for NSW-based cast and crew, along with opportunities for 1200 extras," said Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner.

"It is a testament to our screen industry that Hugh Jackman and his team have chosen to come back to Australia after such a positive experience making the X-Men Origins."

Although some production work is scheduled for the US, another $10 million worth of post-production work will be done here, especially visual effects. Both state and federal government incentives were provided to bring the film to Sydney.

Plot - Logan beginning a forbidden romance with a Japanese woman whose hand in marriage is, unfortunately, promised to another man. Since Logan won’t take “no” for an answer, it puts him into battle with her father and her samurai-sword-wielding brothers and Silver Samurai.

The Wolverine will be directed by James Mangold (Knight and Day), the script has been written by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects). Hugh Jackman will of course be back in the lead role of Logan/Wolverine, and the film will claw into theaters July 26, 2013.

Cool. Hope this is Jackman's last one.

In Hugh's defense I've never known him to 'phone in' a role.

It does say that part of the movie is being filmed in Australia. That doesn't mean that part of the movie won't be filmed in Japan too.

I 2nd that @PatientZero "Can't believe the movie got sequel. The first was absolutely crap, the acting wasn't very good, except Liev Schreiber, and sometimes Hugh Jackman. They tried to cram in waaaaaaay to many mutants, and the whole Blob scene was just stupid. Also Gambit was shitty too."

The Origins was otherwise good except the "Barakapool", they sould've put the Omega Red into ending battle instead.

I'm always happy to just see a favorite character from comics on the big screen.I'm old enough to remember when there were none.I don't think Origins was the greatest comic book movie ever but I still liked it.The only problem I had was the stupid fake Deadpool character other than that it was an enjoyable film.I'm looking forward to part 2.I think Jackman does a great job as Wolvie and that's coming from someone who has read X-Men comics his whole life.

The "Japan story" is my favorite Wolverine story. I bought the books in the 80's when they were new. To this day I look upon that Wolverine as the best Wolverine. It's the character's defining moment. His finest moment.

I know, with almost 100% certainty that it is impossible that this particular film studio could do that story justice. After all that we have seen come and go I just don't beleive it could happen.

I despised the last one. I won't even waste my money on this one.

how bout they recast as well then I might be interested. I'm tired of watching a closet homosexual broadway actor playing one of the most badass comicbook characters ever.

There is a LOT of studio space in Sydney. Studio space they can use to make sets that LOOK like Japan.

Just FYI, since some people here apparently don't understand how movies work.

Why do all the wolverine movies have to be a love story. Why can't they be dark gritty movies that look into the mind of a man captu and tortured and not knowing who he is.
