Hugh Jackman has confirmed that he’s started work on a second Wolverine film.

Hugh Jackman says:

“Japan is where we're heading, (and) we're starting to work on it now. We're in ... the first steps of developing that story.”

A sequel to Jackman’s first X Men Origins movie was announced back in May but until now fans could only speculate about where the story would take place.

The flick will be based around X Men comics from the 1980s co-written by Sin City creator Frank Miller where Wolverine battles ninjas and samurais.

Hugh said: “I think the fans love that saga. It's my favorite saga of the Wolverine stories. That's a movie I've longed to make from the beginning, so that's where we're heading.”
Hugh Jackman has spoken about the next Wolverine film saying it will be “very different” to the first film dedicated to the X Men character.

This month director Darren Aronofsky has been confirmed for the project, which will start shooting next year.

He’s famed for dark movies like Requiem For A Dream and The Wrestler, so seems an unusual choice for a comic-book adaptation. But Hugh said he’s expecting great things.

“This is, hopefully for me, going to be out of the box. It’s going to be the best one, I hope," the Aussie star told NY Mag. “I feel this is going to be very different."

He continued: "This is Wolverine. This is not Popeye. He’s kind of dark, But, you know, this is a change of pace. Chris McQuarrie, who wrote The Usual Suspects, has written the script, so that’ll give you a good clue. [Aronofsky’s] going to make it fantastic.

“There’s going to be some meat on the bones. There will be something to think about as you leave the theater, for sure.”

X Men Origins: Wolverine 2 is currently scheduled for release in late 2011.

Maybe now the movie will be a kick ass rated R movie.
The wolverine movie is rumored to feature Silver Samurai. My only problem with the movie is its the sequel to the first movie. This movie also comes out around the same time as X-men First Class which is kind of stupid since they are both prequels.I guess we will se what happens later.

prepare to be disappointed, they tried to get people hyped for the first origins by saying it was going to be dark and it so wasn't the darkest part was Victor ripping out someones spine and he doesn't technically do that either he just grabs it from inside blah not even any blood.

Why would this be released in 2011. Even if they wanted it for November then that's only a year away. I'm still hyped this could be the first decent wolverine/x-men movie in a long time

Could this storyline connect with the Avengers storyline and Xavier being in Japan for the HYDRA history where Wolverine killed Gorgon?
What are the respective timelines for Wolverine 1 and 2 (when he is in Japan)?

... Just curious

The hardest part about Wolverines suit is getting the costume designers to develop a great looking Mask. I'm sure Face time is not a problem since everyone and there mama knows Hugh is Wolverine.

@Guason; I'm just saying... why not? I don't know much about it, but when I looked it up last night there was this amazing connectivity. I was floored the way the two stories wove together. I thought it was a great opportunity for another film, which was not hinting toward it before, to build up the excitement for the Avengers move. If somehow a skrull, or HYDRA hint was made, that would be awesome.
Butter up that keyboard Guason....
so.. whats the word on the two timelines.. when was wolverine 1 and when is the japan story (years?)
