WOLVERINE: Taron Egerton Is The Favorite To Replace Hugh Jackman As Logan At The Bookies

Taron Egerton remains a fan-favorite pick to take over as Wolverine, and it seems the Kingsman actor is also the bookies' favorite to replace Hugh Jackman as the iconic mutant hero...

Hugh Jackman "retired" as Wolverine after James Mangold's Logan, but the actor was convinced to reprise the role for a team-up with Ryan Reynolds' Merc With a Mouth in next month's Deadpool and Wolverine.

We don't know if Jackman will stay on as the iconic clawed mutant after the R-rated threequel, but rumors persist that he will return for at least one more movie (most likely Avengers: Secret Wars). It's always possible that the Aussie actor will stick around as the MCU's Wolverine going forward, but we are more likely to see a younger actor step into the role down the line.

We're not sure if Marvel Studios has anyone in mind, but several actors have emerged as fan-favorite picks, including Kingsman and Rocket Man star Taron Egerton - who also happens to be the current bookies' favorite.

Here's the full list with betting odds via Sportscasting.com.

Taron Egerton +200

Tom Hardy +300

Scott Eastwood +500

Henry Cavill +800

Jeremy Allen White +800

Charlie Hunman +900

Jamie Dornan +1000

Zac Efron +1600

Daniel Radcliffe +2000

Karl Urban +3300

This doesn't mean that Egerton or any of the others listed here are or ever will be in talks for the role, of course, but it is certainly an interesting insight into which actors the bookies think will emerge as top contenders to play Wolverine.

Here's what Egerton potentially suiting-up as Logan in a 2023 interview.

"I’m not going to be the guy to play Wolverine. There’s no signs pointing towards that being the thing. And I just don’t know if I’m... maybe I’m getting to the point where that’s not what I want any more. I don’t know. I’d never say never, and I do love those movies. I’ve really enjoyed watching them over the past 10, 15 years. But whether I... You know, it may not be that they’re the right thing for me any more. I think maybe I’m past the point where that felt like the right thing [for my career]."

Who would you most like to see take over from Jackman as Wolverine in the MCU?

The MPAA recently gave the movie an official R-rating for: "Strong bloody violence and language throughout, gore, and sexual references."

“Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date - Deadpool & Wolverine," reads the new synopsis. "A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier... reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to - F*ck. Synopses are so f*cking stupid.”

In addition to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the title roles, Deadpool and Wolverine will see Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Rob Delaney (Peter), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead) And Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio) return as their respective characters, and they'll be joined by franchise newcomers Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), who will play a TV agent and Charles Xavier's evil counterpart, Cassandra Nova.

Shawn Levy directs Deadpool and Wolverine from a script by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells.

The movie is set to open in U.S. & Canadian theaters on July 26, and will be available in IMAX, RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, Cinemark XD and premium screens everywhere.

@rebellion - RDJ is like 5'8 and he wore shoes that made him appear taller. Let's not act like VFX can't make a person appear taller. It's about the actor at the end of the day. The one who can really sell the character to the audience.

@SonOfAGif - there are no platforms or camera angles that will make me buy this guy as Slim. The same way Cruise always looks short to me. RDJ

DP&W will dethrone Joker and nothing will be gained by it.

They will [frick] this up and pick the wrong guy for the wrong reasons and have a bunch of jagoff retards in charge of it.

I have zero faith in the future of the MCU after this summer. DOA MFer

Dudes a good actor but he’s too “babyfaced” imo and doesn’t have that grizzled & gruff quality that the character requires imo.

If it was up to me , my picks out of those choices would be Karl Urban & Tom Hardy (maybe Cavill and Hunnam aswell).

...yes, we're in a world where bookies are taking bets on casting choices. I dare marvel to purposefully choose someone not on this list just to f@#$ with anyone who'd actually bet on this.

@Apophis71 - Thanks. I just wanted to make sure that's what the writer was referring to.

I read that would deal with all sorts of bets, but I didn't know that the results were published (made publicly known).

Thanks again.

@LSHF - Oh the SPECIFIC Bookies, misread and thought you were asking what the term was...

...did a quick check and Sportscasting.com seems to have compiled those numbers using 'all top gambling sites' thus not one specific one.

@Apophis71 - Thank you for taking the time to research and reply.

I wasn't sure and the writing seemed to suggest that I would know that is a thing Bookies keep track of and make publicly known.

I guess I forgot about the Clint Eastwood movie, "The Gauntlet".

Apophis71 - 6/20/2024, 8:46 AM
@LSHF - Yeh, most the big online bookies run odds on a whole range of novelty bets like who will be the next Bond or whatever which are published cos, well they are online betting sites, lol. They aren't always as easy to find on their sites however and don't always appear on the aggragate listing sites but if you know how and where can find published odds on a lot weirder stuff than who will be the next Wolverine :D
