Possible Dazzler Easter egg appearing in X-Men: Apocalypse

Hugh Jackman will once again grace the silver screen as Wolverine in this summer's X-Men: Apocalypse, but there may yet be one more surprise cameo in the film. Well, sort of.

X-Men: Apocalypse actress Sophie Turner posted an image to her Instagram account with the caption: #FlashbackFriday to that time Cyclops and I went shopping at the mall and found our favourite singer's album (pre 1989, of course). The photo depicts the Game of Thrones star as Jean Grey and Tye Sheridan as Scott Summers/Cyclops checking out records at a music store. Further examination reveals the cover depicting a blond singer and a title saying "Dazzler: Sounds of Light and Fury."

As depicted in her 1980 debut, Dazzler/Alison Blaire is a mutant who can transduce sound vibrations into energy beams and blasts of light. She made her first appearance in the Dark Phoenix Saga, during which she was presented as a disco singer who used her powers as part of her performances. After helping defeat the Hellfire Club, Dazzler declined an invitation to join the X-Men, but she later made recurring appearances in the series. Marvel Comics created a solo title for the character, which lasted from 1981 to 1985. Her connection to the disco era was quietly phased out in favour of pop rock and adult contemporary music. In later years, she became a prominent character in the New Excalibur, Uncanny X-Men and X-Treme X-Men series. Dazzler is currently featured in the all-female A-Force team.

While there is no official word yet, it stands to reason that Dazzler could possibly make a brief appearance in the film. Pop singer Taylor Swift was spotted visiting the film's set back in 2015, but this was revealed to be a rumor started by fans. If Dazzler does appear, one can only wonder if she will get to display her abilities.
