Brett Ratner On X-Men: First Class and Matthew Vaughn!

The director of the controversial X-Men 3 has come out in support of Matthew Vaughn and thankfully ruled out a return to the franchise in future...

"I think he's brilliant," Ratner said when asked about what he thinks of Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn. "I thought his last movie was fantastic. I'm a fan."

"I would have loved to see 'The Last Stand' directed by him," Ratner added.

"I think this one is probably even more right for him because it's the younger X-Men, the beginning, and he's great, obviously, with kids," the much loathed director went on to say. "He has an incredible visual style and he's a great filmmaker. I think every 'X-Men' should be directed by a different director, just like 'Alien.' Why does it have to be one filmmaker?"

And in what will surely be great news to many X-Men fans he went on to rule out a return to the franchise in future: "When I say I'm not going to do another 'X-Men,' it's because they're doing all these spin-offs."

"It doesn't make sense for me to do 'Wolverine' if I did 'X-Men.' It's just a different scope. For me, it would just be going backwards."

JoshW: Well, as many of you will know by now I'm not a fan of Singer's X-Men movies but Ratner managed to take an already poor franchise and make it worse in my opinion. It had some decent action sequences and many of the problems were admittedly down to a bad script but I think that Ratner's comment about him wanting Vaughn to have directed X-Men 3 is one that we can all agree with! :)

screw ratner ruined the last movie. i mean singer kind of ruined some of the things in the first 2 movies but i enjoyed them, i liked the 3rd one the first time i watched it in theaters but after watching it a couple more times i realize it was really crap.

What Tyler said. I'm pretty sure Ratner called all the fanboys "pricks" if I remember correctly. He's nothing to me.

Funny that he brings up Aliens, where the first one was okay, the second one was great, and the third one was weak.

Of all the things that were wrong with Last Stand the one that it is hardest for me to wrap my head around is how you can finally have Colossus a Juggernaut in the same movie AND THEY NEVER FIGHT. *Sigh*.

I actually just watched Kick-Ass for the first time...it's now my favourite comic book movie of all time, beating iron man, spider-man 2, x-men 2, the dark knight...what have you..for me personally, Kick-Ass was PERFECT.

"I would have loved to see 'The Last Stand' directed by him [Vaughn]," Ratner added.

Ratner, of course you would like to see how it's done properly. We all know you're a hack. It's obvious.

"It doesn't make sense for me to do 'Wolverine' if I did 'X-Men."

Ratner, it doesn't make sense for you to do any movie if you did X3.

"For me, it would just be going backwards."

Ratner, you just don't get it. The only direction you can go is forwards no matter what you do. That's how far back you are talent-wise.

I still blame Zak Penn for X3. Was Ratner supposed to come in and save a movie that was just a couple weeks from filming when he came on board? If he was there from the jump he'd have to take full blame, but given the situation, you really can't blame him for it.

@TheQuestion How can you blame a writer when it's the director that calls the shots? A director can change the script if he wants. Ratner didn't have to sign up for trash and then deliver trash to eyes around the globe. Basically, he was willing to sign his name on crap and call it his own.

@TheQuestion - Yeah, it may have been Zak Penn's fault. Ratner is still a better director than Mark Steven Johnson.

@brazilianbatman - I agree that X2 may not have been true to the comics, but it is just a good film.

The only one of the X-men and X-men related movies I can watch is X3, and I'm shaking my head the whole time. I wish Marvel could have the rights back to the mutant franchise right away. Magneto looked like he was either directing traffic or conducting a symphony whenever he was supposed to be using his powers. That Wolverine movie was the worst... SMH!!! Deadpool. Kick Ass was great..

fanboiii - "Ratner, it doesn't make sense for you to do any movie if you did X3." LMAO!!!!

Question does bring up a good point. Sure Ratner has to take part of the blame, but by the time he got there, he would have needed to re-write the whole fcuking thing. And we all know the studio would not have allowed for that. Sure you can change one thing here, maybe another couple of things there. But the whole story? Put it to you like this. You can spend all day polishing a turd, but at the end of the day, it's still a piece of shit.

Ratner sucks!!! His only good movie was Rush Hour. Ratner can lick some sweaty balls. I can't stand that Guy.

X3 had its moments (the beast, for instance) but it just wasn't put together well. They should have gone with a dark phoenix plot or a cure plot, but not both.

thats right, next time dont do that inside of me and you wont have a problem :)

as for x-3, it certainly had many problems, but i dont hate it as much as others do. i hate the kill off cyclops thing the most, but the cure plot is a good plot. its been used in the comics and cartoons so no problem there, just poorly executed. but the mixing of dark phoenix and the focus on wolverine AGAIN definately created some problems.

@Todd Gray - Now, now, lets not be to hard on violence. I hope it can be a lots-of-action, violence-fest AND have a real story and acting in it, however if its one or the other I'd make a strong argument for violence.

X3 The Last Stand was Ratner's way of saying to comic book fans. This is the last time you will stand in line to go see a movie I directed and it's gonna be hard to sit and watch this cause I just raped you. THE LAST STAND!

i think i must be the only person, who has loved all x men movies and wolverine.

i still dont personally see why every hated vinnie jones as juggernault, he acted just like the juggernault.

a meat headed cocky menace who makes stupid puns.

only problem i have, i wish that would of shown how beast went from being an ordianary looking fella to being blue.

fanboiii - 5/17/2010, 4:24 PM
@Rolanddeschain19 Juggernaut isn't suppose to be a mutant, and they ignored his relation to Professor X. They're suppose to be step-brothers. Plus, they changed his powers and made him weaker. He's not close to Juggernaut from the comics.

I think that a poor script was the main problem the movie but Ratner definitely didnt help! However, judging from a lot of whay I've heard from the guy in the past, he's a real asshole. :P

Will praising Vaughn and saying he'll never return to the X-Men make me dislike him any less? Nope. I am looking forward to what the director of the brilliant Kick-Ass brings to First Class because he gives me hope despite the fact the movie is being made by Fox!

Oh [frick] it. It'll probably be shit. BOOBS!!! :D
