Fox has moved Bryan Singer from the directors chair to producer for the upcoming X-Men:First Class. They are doing this because they want to move ahead with the project right away. Singer will not be available to direct because he will be busy with Jack the Giant Killer.

It seems the studio liked Jamie Moss' script for X-Men:First Class so much that they want the movie to be the first of a trilogy. They would also like to have it out soon, possibly by 2011.

Singer will join the production team of Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg. Casting will begin soon and it is likely that it will be shot in 3-D or converted later.

Fox has already talked to several directors for the project.

As long as he's involved im happy, its funny cuz this actually gives him time to direct X-Men 4 or Wolverine 2, maybe even Deadpool.

so are they going to use this a re-whatever?

weapon925: It sure sounds like a reboot of sorts. They could actually take this opportunity to do the X-Men right. I doubt it though.

Josh must be jizzing his pants.

Personally, I was pretty okay with him directing, but there's probably someone better out there. But I couldn't help but feel that he wouldn't have let First Class turn into a teeny bopper X-flick, and that gave me comfort. But if he's a producer, maybe he can still have the same effect?

I don't know. Not bothered by the news. As long as they get a competent director who (hopefully) won't be so easily pushed around by Fox, First Class could turn out decent.

This is classic case of bait & switch. Fox knows Singer is attached to Jack the Giant Killer and is trying to pump out the pub for Singer to be involved. They would have to give some big money over for Singer to be released of directing that movie. Looks like they couldn't broker the deal....yet.

Hmmmm....I enjoy the X flicks enough, I think I would like to see this franchise go Spiderman and rebooted already. This movie should have Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Angel, Iceman and Professor X! And.....AND COSTUMES! Doesn't have to be spandex! Could still be leather....I just want some darn costumes on some of these superheros!

regardless who the director is i am not very excited about this film. fox has ruined the x-men. singers' films were entertaining but he did not do the x-men correctly. x3 and origins were a crime. until marvel gets the rights back i will not be excited about any x-film.

Ozy- You ought to be tarred an feathered for even mentioning that name.

This news is good and bad. Glad Singer is staying on board. I like that idea.

I DON'T like the idea of them rushing to get this out. Rushed movies always turn out to be ass when they are done. Slow it down and take some time.

Maybe this can be our new rumor mill topic now that Cap has been cast! All the casting for First Class will keep us entertained for a while!

This 3D thing is really starting to tick me off. But, on another note. At least Singer is involved with any X-men Project. I hope he actually does X-men 4. I know it's a long way off, but I hope he actually does the jean Grey Lives storyline from Avengers vol 1 #263.

Then they could go to the Shiar Galaxy to retrieve Xavier. That would be a great movie. Who ever said that we had to stay on earth the whole time? Not me. I would love to see the Gladiator. That would be cool.
Maybe even have the New Mutants formed while the X-men are gone. That would be cool for a part 5 movie. Like George Lucas before, he always had different stories overlapping each other. It would be great. Then In Part VI, you could have the X-men returning in time to save the earth from disaster. Maybe even a cameo from Spidey or the Surfer. I don't know. My imagination is crap. Anyway, just wanted to put that all out there. Oh, it just dawned on me that I didn't mention Cyclops, well, the New Mutants could find out Scott is alive and save him, then Cyke could train the New Mutants for the big time while the X-men are away and have them end up in the situation I stated above in part 6. Please be reading this Singer, Marvel, Anybody!!!

@ Scorpioxfactor i like the idea but its not just Comic fans that go to see these films it need to be keept simple so new fans can keep with the story they would have no idea who the shiar are an why prof x is with them

Yes, but over the years, they always go with, oh, we will alienate people. How many times has movie storylines worked before without explanation? Look at Star Wars, Star Trek, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Stargate, Dune, Alien. We didn't worry about the origin, we just were under the spell of the awe and majesty of the special effects, adventure and so forth, those who agree with me. If I am alone on this I will understand. Some origin explantions came out while the movie is going. That makes the whole mystery of who they are way better than a whole movie explanation and one big fight at end. You do have a point though and a good arguement Roscoe.

@Roscoe182 Totally! That’s why I would love to see a reboot. The costumes in the First Class image (above) could be redesigned to work on film! I love Hugh as Wolverine though, that’s the hard part.
Another thing I hate about ALL the other X movies is its continuity! You see Kitty Pride in the first movie and it’s a different chick. They did it with a few of the characters in X1-X3 + Origins! UGH! It’s annoying

@Scorpioxfactor-No way you will see the X-Men, the Avengers and Spider-Man all in the same movie any time soon. They are all tied up between 3 different studios who won't play nice together, for now.

Josh-I thought you might get a little "excited" seeing this

Until MARVEL STUDIOS get the film rights to the characters they rightfully own, I won't be seeing these films at the cinema and will think twice about purchasing the DVD.

I think Bryan Singer is an over rated director who along with Fox Studios continue to screw with MARVEL characters by presenting their own convoluted ideas.

They arrogantly ignore and disrespect the original source material, continuity time-lines, character ages and character roles.

I realize these films are meant to be adaptations but freedom of artistic license by Hollywood studios is no excuse for counterfeit representations.

In terms of "First Class" Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Angel, Iceman and Professor X are the characters needed just like the picture at the top of this article depicts.

MARVEL STUDIOS need to totally REBOOT this entire franchise and present the X-MEN in all their glory with good, faithful and authentic films.

Anyway, great find HAWKS! :)

I'd like to be happy about this news (although just the fact that Singer is a producer worries me) but apart from the first two X-Men movie that a fairly large amount of people seem to like, Fox have NEVER made a good CBM so why would they start doing so now with First Class?

Just look how badly they screwed up Deadpool...so much so that one of the producers even went on to admit they'll just reboot the character for his own movie! It's pathetic how incompetent Fox are at making these films and it sickens me how badly they handle the characters.

DOGS: Lol, I'd like to be happy about this and think of this as some sort of reboot for the franchise that would make up for the way th epast three movies failed in my eyes but then I think back to the likes of Elektra and Fantastic Four and I remember the way Fox ruined characters like Doctor Doom...I just know that this will be more of the same! ;(

@Anil: He directed it - he didn't write the script (although he was responsible for a later draft). Singer worked with what they had given him. If you're not happy with any of that stuff - blame it on the folks responsible for the script, that stuff isn't a matter of direction/production...

The only way any of these movies will be great is if Marvel/Disney gets off their collective asses and buys back the rights to all of their properties. Otherwise we are just stuck with all these halfassed P.O.S. versions of what should be the greatest comicbook films of all time! They can't create crossovers that are true to the marvel universe as things are now. So X-men and the Avengers can never meet until then. We can't even get a desent Spidey cameo, let alone a Marvel Knights film. Its a greed fest and it sucks but until corrections are made the movies will never be as successful as they should be. Thats also why we can't get a good Fantastic Four movie, or a Badass, Balls to the wall Wolverine. And I would be surprised if the Deadpool movie didn't come out Watered down and weak when compared to his comicbook counterpart. Not trying to be negative but DAMMIT! I just want what we all want. Some really AWESOME, Kickass comicbook movies that I would be proud to take my kids too (If I had kids) and didn't feel cheated by a watered down version of what we grew up with, and all know and love. I'm just sick and tired of getting a cheap, retarded version of the stories I enjoyed. And its not fare to cheat the next generations out of some incredible and amazing works of art. Mabye they'll wake up one day and realize that its not about the money. Its about entertainment. And I as well as the rest of you would like to for once get what we're paying for.

The Ever Dilagent Nutcase, R.R.

P.S. WOW, That was long winded. LOL!!!!!!

P.S.S. Brian Singer SUCKS!!! X-Men movies were halfassed mocking of the original material. REBOOT!!!
